Has any one bought a boat in US and brought back to Canada? Would like to know the logistics
ie. paper work, customs, taxes etc. Boat in question is in upper Michigan and would be brought back by water to Ontario.
Thanks in advance Sledboy

Bought a boat in Traverse City MI. Had it trucked to Hamilton ON. Trucker handled customs clearance. If USA manufacturer, no duty. Must pay both PST and GST on value converted to Can.$$. You will need a bill of sale and a MI Watercraft Certificate of Title (clear title), $50.00 fee. If sailing boat to Canada, check in at first available Canadian port and clear customs.

Riviera thanks for your reply. Was the boat bought from a dealer or private sale? I would of course love to pay only one tax. What size was the boat you had shipped? and if you dont mind who was the company and what were the costs to Hamilton?
Regards Sledboy

Sledboy: Regret that you have no choice on the taxes.GST is collected on entry. PST office will be advised of entry and they will contact you to prove tax paid otherwise pay now. Bothwell Boat Works, Bothwell ON transported the boat. I think the cost was $2300.00 Can.$$. Probably higher now with fuel increases. Boat is a Carver 28' x 11' beam. Weight approx. 8000lbs. Dave Kopriva is the owner of Bothwell. Really experienced and most pleasant person. If you Google Bothwell, you should find their site.Hope this helps. What size boat?

Sledboy:
Bought my used bought from a dealer who were most helpful. They also performed the mechanical check on the engines.

Riviera: Were talking a 30ft Sea Ray with 11 ft beam. I was hoping that the tax situation was the same as up here. Only on tax on private sale vs two on dealer sale. O well guess we have to feed the Pigs at the trof. The area the boat is in may make it cheaper to move by water and of course a nice trip, but it would be good to get a quote.
