Has anyone ever stayed at Montauk Marine Basin Marina before? Close to Gossemers Dock - and reasonable fees. We've stayed at MYC (slightly expensive - and somewhat snooty), and Gone Fishing Marina (isolated but great people). Admiral likes the south facing LI Beaches.

Montauk Marine is primarily a fishing marina, with very few amenities.

Snug Harbor has a pool and motel.

What are you looking for?

The beach is important - Short cab ride. Walk to restaurants afterward - good friendly people. This place advertises showers, power/cable/water, marine store, gas dock, laundry, etc - the basics. Don't need a pool - have one of those at home.

If you want to walk to the beach and restaurants, Montauk Marine is probably your best bet.

It just is not a resort, like Montauk Yacht Club.

Spike,

I assume your wife likes the ocean beaches, you can't realy walk to the ocean beaches, from any of the marinas it's 2-3 miles.

The MYC provides a free van to town and the beach, I think it runs till 6pm. what you save staying some where else would cover a few cab rides and then some depending on boat size.

I just called MYC to see about staying the weekend of the 30th. Weekend rates 4.50 ft, 40 ft minimum, that's 180 plus 20 for electric and 9 for a resort fee, add tax and your at 225 or so. Oh, and there full, they put me on the wait list.

Montauk Basin $3.65/foot (actual footage) - including electric. Cab ride to beach $11. Priceless!

We always stay at Montauk Marine Basin and will be there again in mid July. I like it, nothing fancy but cheaper than Star Island and MYC and a short walk to all the restaurants along the way to Gosman's dock. They have a fuel dock, store with fishing gear and the basic marine and galley supplies, there's a small market a few minutes away for other food items. They have laundry and decent bathrooms and showers (although sometimes they should be cleaned more often). We'll be fishing while there and have a few other boats coming, it's usually a good group of people. If you liked Gone Fishing I think you'll like Montauk Marine, and it has much better access to the area.
