also posted in ATC-hope that's okay.
A fella at our club has a 30' Carver with twin Merc 350s and doesn't know what weight or size chain to use for mooring here on the Hudson.
Can anyone here help him out?
Thanks.

Hmmm, not sure on that one? Where are they planning to put it? Off Yonkers? I wonder what the currents run there - don't forget to factor that in when choosing this thing...

I've never installed a mooring before so probably aren't of much help...

Well, I have had 2 moorings on the hudson. Both mushroom type cement mushrooms. The first was a 300 lb. mooring for my searay sundancer 240. The weight on this was overkill for the weight of the boat, which was 5200 lbs. I now have a Regal 3560, with a dry weight of 15,200 lbs. I upgraded the mooring to a 500 lb. mushroom. It has 3/4 inch lines and also some chain. The mooring holds fine, but make sure you have 2 lines, in case one breaks, the other is still there to support it. I have had this problem twice. so if anything, I would upsize the lines and check frequently.
