More electronics stolen

Guys , Another boat was hit in merrick. Raymarine Electronics were taken again. I don't know what the answer is just wanted to give everyone a heads up !

I'm with you, that really does suck....
Probably got the thief a $20.00 piece of crack!

Sadly I think your right. They take everything . ITs usually a SEARAY and they remove the 4 - 6 screws that hold the entire dash panel in place. They neatly unplug everything and poof into the night they go. Out of the 6 to 8 boats hit in my marina . All were Searays , the complete dash panels were removed ( gauges and all ) . No wires were cut or damage done to the vessel .

I always say check ebay.
It's where most looters dump their stuff.
Little suspicious when 1 guy sells lots of heads with no antennas, manuals, or wires.
 
Raymarine screwed the pooch. The serial #'s are electronic. Meaning that u need to turn the machines on to check serial #'s

ETCHING is the only way to go .

can someone steal me an e120. mine is on it's deathbed. Sorry to hear this, it's really terrible. do they have cameras at the marinas
 
They do have cameras. They did not come by land. They came by water. for one boat that we know for sure , they tied to his bow, Unsnapped his canvas at the helm and climbed in that way. They never disturbed the canvas on the stern. When they replayed the marina cameras u could barely make out the canvas change position. It was a stretch to make out that someone boarded the boat. the foot prints in the dew were the only clue.

I sold out my interest in the security business 15 years ago, reason being, most of the industry is a sham. In other words, residential and most low end commercial places are not interested in protecting the premises properly, but more concerned with cost. So, like Robs place, they create a false since of security, which IMO,is worse than no security. Just saying!!!
 
Walter I have caught my share of criminals with my camera systems. Sadly they have failed as well, I would rather try and fail then not try at all!
I'm thinking maybe an inexpensive Crittercam on your boat might help, if you do get hit maybe you will catch the SOB!
I have cameras on my boat but I'm thinking of upgrading my stern camera for better night vision, I record all for at least a month.
 
About 10 years ago, we had our boat at Center Yacht Club in Moriches. I had stopped at the marina one January day to pay a bill only to find the place swarming with police. It seems a crew had been hitting marinas by water and had hit CYC the previous weekend, breaking into boats and stealing electronics and fishing gear. One boat owner I spoke with was really angry because, in addition to breaking the cabin door, they had found his 'hidden' stash of cash, which his wife didn't know existed, and had made off with $10k! They didn't touch the boat we had back then; too old and ill-equipped. Hy
 
I don't think my Raymarine C80, radar, and autopilot would have ANY value for resale.

They are a constant problem and I DO NOT rely on them at all.

From what I have been able to determine from talking to everyone is they come during the day and make a list of who has what . They may come back 2 to 3 times and just walk around to take notice and compile a list. ITs weeks later that they come back for their bounty. The thought process is any video would be long over written. or no one will bother to go back that far looking for someone they will never notice.

Pretty damn smart.

Ive always had a dash cover so the lil things didn't help.

You don't need to catch them searching you need to catch them in the act! This doesn't require much storage! Placing a crittercam on your boat might catch them in the act. I record well over a month with an inexpensive DVR this is not the easiest solution for most but a standalone unit that only records motion events could work out well and easy to install.

You got me thinking about this and I realized I haven't logged in to check and make sure my system is working in a while so I just tested it and downloaded a picture.

If they were stealing the electronics for resale to boat owners, the thieves would be cutting the power supply wiring to take the power plug with them, IE: professional boat thieves. If they are "unplugging" everything they are amateurs just looking to sell for very little return. Get a big black dog to live on your boat.
