Here at the west end of Lake Erie, there are two
fish species that are desired to catch.

Yellow Perch and Walleye.

Minor species are Catfish, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass with an occasional Muskie or Steelhead.

The least desired fish to catch is a Sheepshead or Freshwater Drum. I think it gets a bad rap as some people avidly fish for same....

What's in your neck of the woods????

John

Here in British Columbia I live minutes from the Frazer River, Salmon are making there way up the river right now so we are fishing for Sockeye, chinooks, and pinks are not to far behind. Also in the river is nice good fighting sturgeon I was out last Sunday with a co-worker and we landed two to the boat a 4 and 5 ftr lots of fun.

Off Cape Cod in New England saltwater, a few of the fish we like to catch are striped bass, bluefish , fluke (summer flounder), winter flounder, black sea bass, bonito, false albacore, scup ,mackerel, herring ( moratorium) ,squid , weakfish (rare these days), bluefin, yellowfin, longfin albacore, bigeye and skipjack tunas, skillies (white marlin), blue marlin, swordfish , mahi-mahi/dolphin, cod , haddock, pollock, wolffish , very rare halibut, redfish and a bunch of species of sharks particularly mako, thresher and porbeagle for fine eating. Plus a lot of less desirable fish and I'm sure I left out a few desirables, and numerous delicious crustaceans and shellfish is another whole tasty story... along with available FW fish species trout , bass , pickerel, perch, etc. .

Other than that there isn't much in the way of fishing available over here.

Disclaimer : I have yet to boat a swordfish , blue marlin , wolffish, halibut or thresher.
But the FL hasn't sung yet!

Sandy, how's the Daiwa working for you?
Fishing's off here lately, my buddy sold his boat :( But he's shopping for a bigger one :)

TM,
I've heard old stories of farmers lining up wagons along the banks
of the Maumee river (empties into Lake Erie) and loading them up with sturgeon to be used for fertilizer!

There still are sturgeon and alligator gar in the Lake but are rarely caught.....

Sandy,
That is a lot of species! What kind of regs are there for fishing?

John
