I'm starting out with the aft cabin head. It has a stand alone shower. The 1st improvement will be to install hot and cold mixing valves and a wand inside the shower. I don't like sharing the sinks controls and wand. The sink fixture will be upgraded. Next I have a 45 gallon holding tank that will be mounted on the port side shelf. It will require me relocating the generators starting battery. I have a Raritan H-N-T and a PuraSan that will be installed under the sink on the floor in a cabinet. The head will be changed from a direct drop with a built in 9 gallon holding tank at it's base to a fresh water Raritan Marine Elegance. The head will transition to new SeaLand premium 1.5" sanitation hose directly to the new holding tank. The holding tank bottom fitting will use 1.5" hose to a Y diverter valve, one way will go to the deck's pump out fitting the other will feed the SeaLand diaphram transfer pump taking the tanks contents to the input of a PuraSan type 1 treatment unit. The output of the PuraSan will go through an existing 1.5" through hull but 1st it will get an anti siphon loop between the PuraSan output and the through hull.
That should take care of the head. The front head is a port-a-potty and will be removed. That room will be made into a utility room and have a Splendid washer dryer unit along with the existing sink and storage closets.
That will be phase 2 of operation upgrade of my 36 Gulfstar trawler. I'll address alternative hot water heating and the fresh water pump and filtering in a separate thread.

Have you considered using hard PVC vs the flex sanitation hose?

Note: This is simply an idea. It would resist permeation longer than flex, and potentially be cheaper, but it might be a real beast to install. Again, simply something to consider.

Bill, no reason to use PVC. There isn't a run longer than 3 feet in any part of this system.
There might have been a longer run if I intended to install a new head in the front head which will now be the utility room for my Splendid washer/ dryer.

Just mentioning this to perhaps save you a little grief during the head re-fit.

I replaced the same old drop type head with the integral 9 gallon holding tank that you are about to do. I found that the new Raritan head wasn't the same height as the old toilet and in fact, was lower by quite a lot than a common residential toilet.

My solution was to remove the 9-gallon holding tank from the bottom of the old head, steam-clean and seal it and then use it as a base for mounting the new Raritan toilet. No waste goes into that old tank but it did make the new toilet mount at exactly the right height and looking at it, it looks like just part of the new head.

Your GulfStar may be different from my Silverton so this may not apply. Just thought I'd mention it.

Thanks Bill, I got the tall model ME from Raritan. I shouldn't have that problem but I won't really know until I install the new head.
Thanks

Among other projects I am installing a raritan elegance as well. Never thought I would be this excited about a toilet. The old crown head still works but it's time for the upgrade. The crown is probably early 70's technology at best. So looking forward to a quiet flush and with a freshwater flush hopefully eliminate some odor.

As a side note, the modern flush toilet was invented by Thomas Crapper....seriously.....always makes me chuckle when I think about it.

Good luck with all your projects Bill.

Somewhere I missed the part about your new boat. I thought maybe you just had a brain f^rt when you wrote out the title.[:O]
