We are planning our main cruise for the summer.

Can all you readers suggest some marinas out in Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. I'm reading all the marine guides but I'm taking advise from others that have experienced them as well.

Thanks,
Woof

Nantucket Boat Basin is the place to be if you want a world class marina experience.

Where in Martha's Vinyard do you plan to stay? There are everal harbors with dock/mooring choices.

We stayed at Vineyard Haven when we went 13 years ago, I recall it being pretty nice. I'll have to dig out my old log books and see where else we went.

Ditto on Nantucket Yacht Basin
MV: Edgartown on a mooring is wonderful. Picturesque town with good restaurants and laid back. Make a reservation or grab a blue mooring ball first come first serve.

Oak Bluffs in a slip or mooring. Upbeat with more of a party atmosphere. More things to do and people to watch. We do a guys trip here each year. Also a good family spot. Use the showers in the Wesley hotel. Cost and quality much better than the town provided amenities.

Vineyard Haven: Moorings/slips are nice. What away to wake up to the Shannendoah and Black Dog swinging quietly on their moorings. Tisbury Wharf Company is nice if they have room. Quiet with nice facilities and nice view of the Harbor.

Menemsha- call first thing in the am to reserve a slip. Nice/quiet area. Tidal pond behind slips is good for kids. Have a dink plenty of exploration at hand.

We just made reservations at Vineyard Haven for July 4 weekend. This marina looks and sounds great! Thanks Guys

What Ted said........Use the Wesley in the morning, they have a shower setup just for the boaters.

We went last summer and stayed at Oak Bluffs Marina. it is right in town, actually right on the sea wall. made it very convenient to get to restaurants, stores, etc. only thing is that it is not floating docks so you have to climb a ladder to get off your boat which did not bother us. we really enjoyed it there.

Vineyard Haven Marina is a very nice place! We stayed there last year. FWIW, Vineyard Haven is a dry town but she runs a club upstairs over looking the marina. She can't serve you or charge you for alcohol but you help yourself and put your "donation" in a coffee can. Very small marina with BIG boats!

Make sure you do a meal at the Black Dog a few doors down.

Maybe you'll bump into Bill at the Black Dog.

Here's a few pictures at VHM to wet your whistle.

We were travelling fools back then, Gina was 7 months pregnant with Tim.

That trip we hit Norwalk, Essex, Block, Newport, Martha's Vineyard, Falmouth, Cuttyhunk, Montauk, Shelter Island, came thru Shinnecock and went to Watch Hill, then headed home.

Did it all on our 28', with no radar.

I bet you could have done that trip with a bow rider!

Pattie really likes Martha's Vineyard so we are heading out there again after Block. Staying in Oak Bluffs this time.

Hey dog,

How were you planning on going? I see you have a 25' and was wondering how the ride out would be. I also have a 25' and was thinking of towing it to the Cape, spending a few days there, and then going out from there maybe.

MJK..Dog has not updated his profile, he has a 30 footer now...

Oh, that makes it a bit easier. That's still gotta be a nice ride from SP out to the Vineyard, just not on a 25 footer.

Thanks for the update.

Thanks Butch. Block Island is jammed for the week of the 4th. Thanks Butch.. Oh well... Yes Blackdog upgraded to a 30' Chaparral. Mike, what a killer trip back you had back then. Are you working this weekend at PB. Lets talk about that trip. Bill and I are going. We are planning on the following ports. Groton CT, (American Wharf), Martha's Vineyard (Vineyard Haven), Nantucket ( ), Newport ( ), Greenport LI, home... Leaving July 3 and will be home July 13.
