This fantastic on-water festival usually happens the first week in August here in Maine with some real beauties from the past on display and on the water. Can't help but wonder if any RO's made it up? I know that Spike has a little honey he wanted to bring up. He's got a boat he wanted to bring, too!

Hey! We did attend the show - but sans boat. We say it will be ready in the Spring, but not sure what year....
The Naples ACBS show was a success and combined this year with a car show. Great idea. The cars went perfectly on the causeway. There were 50s T-Birds, Mopars, a 69 Chevelle, GTOs, and many others. The boats included the usual Chris Crafts, Dunphys, and Century to name a few. About 35 boats in all.
Below shot is with 2 coats of Epiphanes. There are now 6 and counting - getting nice and glossy. Pin stripes next, then the motor goes in. Enjoy.

I`ve a question for the people that would know about the old wooden boats, I`m tempted by a 1935 Dodge 101, restoration done but needs a little mechanical work. Is it a worthy collectable? The seller calls it very rare, as in this is the only one left.

As you know, Dodge Boats were not as popular (production wise) as say Chris Craft or Century Boats, thus making some them much more desirable in general. However it depends on the particular model your are looking at. Some of the Chris Crafts are rare as well (low production volumes), and are quite valuable. For instance, there were only 19 pre-war CC Hydroplanes made - very few examples still around.
I am by no means an expert on Dodge, but I can ask around. I am looking in the 2010 ACBS directory, and see 49 Dodge boats listed from 1924-1939. There are 4 1935s, and no model 101. There is a model 103 listed. The ACBS directory is not a complete listing of all antique/classic boats - just those that are members of ACBS.
Aside from the year and model, I would want to know if the restoration was done by a reputable restorer. Do you know where it was done?

It is an amazing story of some wonderful boats and the effort to mass produce them. It also details the personal slide down into history of both the company, and the owner. I came away with a much better understanding of the boat industry thru the 20's and 30's, than I have ever been able to read in any other book. If you like beautiful wood boats, wood boat history, and enjoy automotive history or stories of the people, this book should be on your shelf.

Spike, That`s the one,I was going by yesterday and his yard caught my eye, full of wooden stuff, from fully restored to shells, he seems to know what he`s doing. He said he would like to move the Dodge because he is out of inside storage...I have no idea what its worth...kinda like the "used boat prices" thread in ATC
