We had a bad thunderstorm come through, lots of rain and lightning. One boat on our dock got hit, his antenna exploded, his electronics are fried.

Was on the Haverstraw ferry at the time...very interesting trip to say the least.

How close is your boat to the one that got hit? everyone around it need to test everything on board! Last time a boat got hit at SPBM three boats in each direction had damage to electronics. I was lucky I was the fourth boat:)

That sucks. At least it did not go up in flames. Last year I didnt take a direct hit but still blew out bothe the brains on my engines.

If I only had a brain:) I hope Haverstraw didn't get any strikes I just got everything working perfectly on board.

I was on my boat, everything is fine.

Nice thing about green dock is all the tall lightning rods surrounding us. We're likely to be the last boat to get hit as we're the shortest. Aluminum masts make good lightning rods.

:)

You would think so, Ben, but the boat that got hit is one of the shortest and lowest boats on the dock. The one right behind him is at least 20' taller.

The boat that got hit at SPBM was a sail boat the ground plate burnt a hole right thru the hull, it went down quick. The boat was a total loss two weeks later he bought the exact same boat I thought he fixed it real quick:)

Think I'm gonna go add a couple of ground straps to my neighbors boat.

Was the boat next to mine huh? Lovely! Guess i'll be down in a little while!!

When my electronic engine brains got fried, the boat that got hit was a go fast about 100 yards away. Lot's of boats between me and him that were unscathed. It doesn't always take a straight path or make much sense.

The boat was to my stern. I was in my cabin when it hit. Felt the numbness and hair stood up on arms.Tv went out! I was lucky and only have minor problems. Dimmer Lights in aft cabin will not turn off. Even after I took the switch out of the circuit they are stoill on. Have to shut the breaker off to turn them off. One of my deph finders is reading very erratic or the marina now has 300' plus water under me. Tripped a couple of ground faults and blew a surge surpressor on the TV.Once I changed that the TV worked again! Insurance company wanted a short haul to insure no thru hull damage. Everything looked good and I now have a clean bottom. I know that will bring comments! The fellow behind me is not so lucky. All electronics are fried. Only thing that seems to be working was the AC and refrig. Cranks but does not run. He also has two lights that will not turn off. Could have been alot worse so no complaints from me!

Butch,
Glad to hear you are fine. That's too close for comfort.

I am happily shocked my boat was unscathed , but I feel really bad for the
boat the took the brunt of it.

How dirty was your bottom Butch? And please put a towel on the seat next
time you are sitting on my boat.

The trip was great! It was really nice to meet you and some of the other BE guys. What a wonderful group of people.

We do have a great bunch up here. We have met some really good people on BE and always found they were there to give whatever assistance they could. Glad you had a good time. Hope to start our trips in the near futire!
