Thanks to a great suggestion by Andy (Alk) I'm looking for a marina to dock the Gulfstar at in the Elk River. The marina needs to be able to accomidate a 36' trawler. This will cut my driving time by about 45 minutes and be 40 miles closer to my NJ office and home (each way). Can anyone recommend a marina that will allow me to stay until the end of June/ I need a minimum of (1) 30 amp power (2) would be preferred, running water and hopefully a pump out facility or services on location. I am hoping to move the boat there early next week. Thje marina doesn't need to be a resort type facility.
I can be reached via cell at 609-377-0022 or e-mail b.lentz(at)certifiedrf.com
Thanks in advance,
Bill

Hadn't seen this post when I yakked in the other... I wonder if Georgetown on the Sassafras might be about the same distance for you? Several decent marinas up there (see Active Captain).

I have a bud up at Summit North; he likes it, and it's been decent when we've gone through there. Maybe that's another -- maybe even closer -- option?

The marina at Delaware City isn't huge, but they usually have space your size, folks are nice, and if you're doing all your own work anyway.... it might even be closer for you? (Unless the road sysem actually makes it slightly further than Summit...)

Active captain will show you what is in the area. If getting to the boat easily is more important than the cruising grounds, in my opinion you should look at triton in elkton, summit north in bear, Delaware city in de city, and barbers basin in salem. Harbor north in Chesapeake city is another option. That's where my pacemaker spent the winter, and since my port motor is still in pieces, probably going to be there for a while. You can only get in at high tide, and you get rocked a bit at the slips, but the price is right.

Start by calling Walt at Triton Marina, he is very helpful, but I'll warn you now that he wont stop calling you back until you give him a yes or no, which is somewhat refreshing in the marina industry. 410.620.3060. The nice thing about triton is that they are only 8 miles from I 95. WWW.tritonmarina.com

There are a lot more options on the eastern side, Bohemia & sassafras rivers, but the car ride is going to be approaching what it takes to get to Essex.

I haven't been to barbers in so long that I can't remember what the facilities are like. You would have to run the canal to get there, but now your car ride would probably be under 65 miles, which makes the one day trip productive.

Last option worth considering in anchor marina on the NE river. Getting pretty far west now, but north too, under 5 miles from I 95.

If you read the active captain reviews for De city marina, you will want to go there.

My personal thoughts are that it's great for you to keep the boat off the Chesapeake. That being said, if that's the general area I would avoid the Sassafras as it's just too far "up and down" the river to get to the Bay. As Andy said, the Bohemia is nice, and it's got good Bay access to some places (Still Pond, Worton Creek, etc.) to boat to. I've stayed here before. Nice staff, nice little pool: http://www.bbyh.com/

Another thought, how tall is this boat? Last time I wanted to get my pacemaker across Jersey I dropped the upper windshield and seat, and had it trucked. Probably saved me money, and absolutely saved me time. But you are likely too tall.

Kurt is right about the Sassy. Great marinas but its a 7 mile cruise to the mouth of the river at the Bay. We used to winter our boats (Carver 3257, Sliverton 351) at Hacks Point Marina on the Bohemia. Its a decent, small, basic blue collar-get your hands dirty place. By that I mean they have no problem with you doing any of your own work. Floating docks and a large travel lift. Quick ride to the C&D and easy to get to from Elkton (maybe 15-20 minutes from 40/213).

Having the boat trucked isn't in my plans Andy although it's a good suggestion. I'm not as interested in cruising as I am being able to cut down on the drive time to the boat. I need to be able to use any spare time I have working on the boat. The longer she sits the less chance I have of enjoying the boat this summer. I'm still a bit pissed at the group I'm having to deal with. Closing has once again moved from Monday till Tuesday at high noon. I'll probably initially move the boat to Essex (Michael's) place because he has pump out facilities at his marina and he has metered power there's no need for me to get involved with B G&E. If I stay at Middle River the old Riley's they have no pump out and I need to get my own meter from B G&E. This isn't practical because the boat will probably only be on the middle river for 2 weeks maximum.
Also the power available at the docks at Riley's is in terrible condition.
I have asked Michael for a firm price Andy based on our conversation. I don't want any surprises.

I suggest you Call Walt at triton marina to get a price, and info on electric, pump out, etc. I think that will work very well for you, and will save you almost an hour each way in the car. And if you don't like what you hear, call Delaware city marina. I think both of these places will work very well for you. There are a lot of other options, but I always start with these two when looking for stop off spots along this route.

It's too tall and it will be once I install my Edson 3" pole mounts and equipment. I'll be able to lay the poles over if needed when cruising.
I have aspirations of removing the upper helm but not this early in the re-fit.
Salem is out but DE City or Triton sound like good choices I could care less if there is a pool honestly this is about doing a lot of work in between my regular work (earning money) and wanting to finish the work before the last week of June.

I know both Triton and Summit North Marina very well and Summit would be my choice. Worth checking out.

Summit is a beautiful marina, but to work on your boat in the slip, i do not think it is a good choice. The parking is FAR from the docks. You will spend more time hauling tools and parts to the dock than getting work done.

Remember guys/ gals I need a marine that I can and will allow me to work on my boat. I'm not looking for a resort or cruising areas of interest. My goal is to be able to cut my drive time from Atlantic County NJ to Delaware/ Maryland. I don't care if the place has a pool etc...
I'm looking for short term dockage where I won't have to walk a 1/2 mile to carry supplies and tools to the boat.
My goal is to get the boat back to Ocean County NJ before the 4th of July.
I may stay at Summit the night before I take the boat back to NJ.
Thanks,
Bill

Billy Try Two Rivers Yacht Basin It is the first Marina on your port side on the Bohemia river. Tom is the owner Real nice Guy You can work on your boat. If your on one of the Outside Bulkheads your car is right there in front of the slip I know there are several open slips so you should be able to get one for a month..Phone # 410-885-2257. Joe K2WJL

Harbour North Marina on the Elk and at the entrance to the C&D canal will let you do whatever work you want to do on your boat. The only issue is you have to go in and out with the tides.

Thanks guys I'm closing tomorrow so will probably looking in the next week or two to move the boat.

Still think Hacks Point Marina on the Bohemia meets all your qualifications.

http://www.delawarecitymarina.biz/ This would be a spot for you to get there by car and by boat. If you need anything let me know I live close. Summit Marina has lift and a area to pull your boat if you need to take it out for some reason.
