My original Marineairr 16000BTU unit bit the dust after 26 years. I installed a new Dometic 16000 ECU retrofit kit. Great price at imarineusa and easy installation. This unit is much more efficient and a lot quieter than the original unit. My marine HVAC guy said it would take about 6 weeks to get a unit. I found it on the internet and saved about $900 and had it in 3 days! Very pleased with the final result.
 
Don’t expect the new units to last 26 years though. You ll be lucky if it lasts 10 years. The new Dometic stuff is crap
 
Dang, I thought he was talking about how long I'll last.
 
No it’s true.... in the last 15 years I have seen a cruisair compressor making it to 10 years. I ve replaced quite a few complete air handlers or blowers as well.
 
Are those on the live aboard or the big guns? If so they probably get heavy use compared to some other boaters.
 
Here in so Florida ACs are always running so it doesn’t matter whether it s a live aboard or small boat or big boat.
