Hello all,

Just a quick note to say thanks for how much information I've been able to gather from this sight.

I just purchased a 1999 350 Mariner and and read just about every thread I could find on it. I moved abroad and am having the boat shipped here. Besides the survey report, pictures and videos, I've yet to physically see it. Hopefully it'll turn up as planned and I can add additional feedback on this particular boat. 3 weeks is a long ways away!

Welcome! This forum is the best, great advice and nice, non-judgemental people.

In the 1990's and after Carver's are great boats.

Welcome! Great forum here...

Nonjudgemental? I must have missed something

We have a 1999 Mariner and just love it. It is our 2nd Carver Mariner. The first was a 1986 32 foot. We have had the 350 for 7 plus years and it has been a great boat.
Congratulations!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I need to update my settings so I know when someone's replied.

I'm from the States but in Dubai so that's where the boat is going. Besides the survey and pics/videos, I've yet to see or touch it. Can't wait! Lot's of questions (and hopefully some answers coming ;)

This is my first big boat purchase and I have everything to learn...

I posted this earlier elsewhere. Here it is, just so you can see what kind of start I'm off too...

Called and emailed a few surveyors from the Sams website until I found one I thought would work.

Nice enough guy, but I found out that's not what I needed after I had time to reflect on the survey etc... Some things weren't de-winterized, the generator wasn't tested because I was told it wasn't taking up water due to the impeller deteriorating and a few other issues. I thought I watched the few videos I had with an eagle eye, but after randomly watching a vid after closing, I realized I need to turn on my eagle ears! As he's showing me the coffee maker (who cares!) I could hear the engine or generator running with a horrible sound and then shut off! I hired the boat yard to change the impeller and they came back with a bill for $800 because they said they had to troubleshoot and determined the gen had the wrong spark plugs! They were long and getting hit and that's the sound I heard. That was nowhere in the report...

I'm usually very good at doing business like this because I'm very detail orientated and extremely thourough. Some things on this boat got by me though and it's time to play clean up once it gets here.

I already have a few stories to tell and the boat hasn't even arrived yet.

Well here's to the best!

Sorry for all of the bad things! When we bought our boat (no gen), we had the boat surveyed, but not the engines. Luckily, I work for the marina/dealer that the boat was purchased from (all 3 times, including our purchase), and I had picked the boat up for winter storage so I knew they ran well. Thankfully, all that's been needed so far is cosmetic and things to make it our own.

Thanks again for the welcome!

I'll start a new topic for some of my other concerns, but here's a few questions about getting started.

My boat arrives in the port, and I'm coordinating to have it launched by crane to clear the port and motor to my slip in the marina. I'm coordinating to use this same crane to help with the arch installation before it drops the boat into the water.

My questions are:

Is there a drain plug I need to put in that I may miss before launching (The owners manual is on the boat and I don't have a copy to thoroughly read ahead of time)?

My boat was winterized, although I was told by the company that winterized it that I just need to turn the key and go, are there any other steps I should include before getting started?

Any thing else I should be aware of?

Sorry if my questions seem stupid, but I'm a little new at this and don't want to miss anything.

Thanks again!

Make sure your sea cocks are open so you have water circulation before you start the boat/gen or use the heat/ac.

I don't recall if our carver had a plug.

Thanks, will do ;)

Check the batteries make sure they are connected and have a charge.

Great to have you hear. I've had my '89 Carver to two seasons now and love it. I'm not much of a contributor as I am so new to working on the thing. I have, however, gotten great advise and have learned so much here. I look forward to helping others in the few subjects I've mastered so far!

Again, welcome!

Thanks! Glad to be here. Seems like a very active place!

Hopefully I'll be able to contribute a bit once I get things sorted.

We will need a full report when it arrives with PIX as well. Have fun.
