Guys , My Marina just opened up a resturant called ACQUA. I have to say the food was fantastic. Its family style Italian and Seafood. They will have a raw bar opened by next weekend. Alittle pricey but the food was top notch. They will have slips avail for transient docking. Just FYI ...

Rob.....If Deb and I get a dinner to go....can we sit at the cockpit table of your boat....and dine ? :)

Walter's having a dinner party on the boat? We'll have to fly up for that :)

I seem to go west a lot more than I go east. I'll have to give the new dining spot a try on night over the summer.
There is also a place over on Reynolds Channel that I want to give a shot before the season is over.

Walter, what's your height? The problem with going west is the bridges! Went to Freeport for the shark tournament this weekend and now with the new top and outriggers I don't fit under any of the bridges! Went around the outside but still needed an opening at the Loop Parkway bridge which now only opens at 20 and 50 minutes after the hour for recreational boats. Not sure what the schedule is for the Wantagh and Meadowbrook. You're probably fine except for the Wantagh.

John,

We arrived at the Loop Pkwy Bridge at 230pm on Friday afternoon. Tried to hail the bridge operator several times. Amother boat hailed us back & told us they spoke with him 15min prior & that he was out opening other bridges. They told us he said he would not be back to the Loop ubtil 4pm,,,2.5hrs!! We ended up dropping antennas & outriggers.

If this is the norm it will piss off lots of people. BTW, the opening times posted on the bridge are only for Fri, Sat , Sun & holidays, All other times by request,,,if he is not opening other bridges.

Andy

Andy,
Its one guy for three bridges and he's union. So i think he can only open one bridge then under union regs he gets a 3 hr rest before he can do anything else. If they'd have made the bridge FING taller when then redid it 2 years ago we wouldnt be having a conversation .

Rob

I used to think there was always someone at the loop bridge and another who drove between the other 2 but if there's one guy for all 3 I'm really glad I ran outside!

NOOOOO way......3 hours rest ....is not enough time for all that work !! :)

Not for nothing, but I was brought up using the mentality that if I do not fit under the bridge due to antennas or outriggers, to just lower them. To have them open the bridge just so you dont have to lower them seems kinda lame to me. Just my opinion

Matt,
You ever lower an outrigger before ? Also the VHF antenna's arent the SISSY ratchet ones on the lil boats. Way to warm out to stiring the pot ! Not having an unrelated pissing match here !

Rob

To drop my outriggers I need tools to dissassemble, so they are in fact a permanemt part of the boat. Antennas are easy to drop,,,even the big ones.

Yeah ive lowered outriggers before. 15-20 minutes and they are down. Ive also seen guys do it at the 2nd wantagh bridge.

no pissing match here.

Matt,
20 minutes, then put them back up, more time, then you need someone at the helm to handle the boat in the freaking skinny water. Add to that, winds, current, tide and the aholes fishing in the skinny channel.
If the freaking morons in NC rebuilt the bridge properly, this would be a non issue, not to mention that the politically connected high paying do nothing job could have been eliminated, thus saving the county mega bucks (salary, pension, medical, etc).

Lets also not forget the shabby way this is run, not rebuilding the bridge properly also deters boaters like me to traverse NC, and hence, not contributing to the NC economy. That economy includes money from sales tax, supporting the small business operations like the restaurant mentioned here.

Do you get this now and why we are bitching!!!!

NC answer is we will raise taxes to support dumb decisions, not much different in SC, or for that matter most of NYS.

Just saying Matt

When guys like all of us here support local business, the state not only wins on the sales tax venue, but on payroll taxes, and a host of other taxes. Boaters in LI are so dissed and not treated like the income source for the county and state we are. Gees, just getting them to place the buoys in a timely fashion is a joke, lets not mention them painting them once every hundred years :)
