Steve's post about a new tender got me thinking that I should start looking for a new motor for our Avon 2.8 RIB.
I run an 8hp evinrude right now, but it can not get two people up on plane. The boat is rated for a 10 (9.9), but I find that most 15 are just recarbed 9.9, so there is no real difference, so why not go for the extra HP?
I will have to lift the motor off the RIB myself to travel, so the +/-100lbs of a 4 stroke seem daunting. The Tohatsu 9.8 is the lightest at around 85lbs I believe (their 15 is a different motor form the 9.8).
Is there really any reason to go with the old tech 75lb 2 stroke over the 4? I don't plan on using the boat in Lake Tahoe any time in the forseable future so why should it matter?
Tohatsu is Nissan, I believe. Do they make motors for anyone else (Suzuki=Johnson, etc)?
Thanks,
Dan
