The admiral and I just closed on a new/old boat!! We're on the water every Friday thru Sunday and needed a bit more elbow room. A guy in our marina had a 1980 33' Carver Mariner for sale - needs some work, but the price was right. At last we have a real stateroom and real salon! Can't wait to get her back from the yard.

Now when we cruise Mayberry we'll be stylin'

If you make that boat look all nice and pretty you won't fit in over at Mayberry. You're better off leaving it as is so you can be "one of the family". They may even let you stay a few months.

Steve, congrats on your new purchase! That year/model is darn near a classic on the Delta. Bring it over and join the Opening Day Parade! We are having the Classic Boat Club, about 10 boats, joining us in the parade and at the dock. Should be fun!

Congrats on the Carver! We have a 1975 2895 that we really enjoy and put a lot of sweat into bringing back with a few upgrades including a windlass, a transom door entry and more. Where do you keep yours, I'd like to see it sometime.

Liz - I may just do that! My new work schedule may make boating impractical until mid-summer, but it may ease up some. New job, and all, I need to make a good impression!

Gnarly - It'll be berthed at the Driftwood Marina, 3 slips down from my other boat (which is now for sale). Probably won't be back in the water for a few weeks, at least, but let me know if you'll be in the area and I'd be glad to give a tour.

Wow! New job and new boat! Hope you don't have a new wife too!!!! LOL

No ... my wife is the greatest - I think I'll be keeping her for a loooooong time! It's great that we're both so into boating and just hanging out around boats and marinas.

I think your right at the Antioch bridge? I won't be going that far for sometime since we're at Oxbow. Maybe we'll be out that way in the summer.

Good luck with your new project.

Congratulations

We had a 1987 32 foot Carver Mariner and now a 1999 350 Mariner. Have just loved both of them. Hope to see you on the water.

Congradulations!

Sounds like fun - and work. I'm bought a 1981 Bayliner 3270 back in October and have been working on it steadily since, and it's starting to look pretty respectable. I'm at Oxbow, like Gnarley (which sounds like a lot like Charley) and restoring and modernizing is the best trerapy I have ever found (although a shrink might be cheaper!).

Good luck on the project - Mariners are beautifull boats - really classy. I almost bought one...

manticore999: congrats on the new (to you) boat!

Jim: I agree with you completely. There is nothing quite like buying a sound older boat and fixing it up. People get to know their boats inside and out during the process and tend to be the self sufficient and proficient boaters. There is a sense of accomplishment that can't be equalled any other way.

I like the winter season boat work almost as much as the actual boating. The main problem with a wooden boat is the exterior paint and varnish have to be done when the temperatures are warm enough and that's when I want to be out on the water. I've gotten to the point now that that I do the paint work as early and as late in the season as possible.

BoatFix has been a great outfit for me. I save a lot of money by ordering from them. In fact, I've got a BoatFix box with a new Purasan disinfectant cartridge right next to me. That's going on the boat this weekend.

To all of you river rats that take care of your boats and keep them looking good, hats off to you!

Well, the boat may be back in the water by next weekend. The yard is finished with their work and I have a mechanic working on the engines now. This definitely needed expert attention, as the boat was neglected for a long time. Once it's back in the slip then my work begins - cleaning, electrical, general repairs and .... did I mention cleaning!? I'll post some more photos once I have in a little more presentable shape.

How about posting "before" amd "after" pics? Then we can really appreciate your work!!!! Best of luck.
