Just received my Passport(first one). Now to get the boat hauled and bottom cleaned and painted. Feeling closer to a Bahamas trip.

Sounds good! When are you getting underway and at what speed do you make on the crossing?

We're going over in May (we hope) if anyone wants to join. Should be heading across the stuart May 20 and head across to Port Lucaya May 21 through May 25th.

Captchas/ Capt. Bill 1

In the past, 3.5 hours to Bimini or Freeport.
Going to try 4.5/5 hours to use less fuel.
Date will depend on work schedule. Probably close to May.
Will post as soon as bottom is painted. 3 day weekend is about time I would spend.

careful Joe... slowing down a little usually doens't result in any fuel savings... either you run on plane (17/18+) or at hull speed, probably 7kts on your boat. running aroudn 12, 13 kts will not help, only lug the engines.

Pascal, we are always in a hurry to get there and wide open on way back. Those 4 brls can suck up the fuel. Plan to stay on plane but at a reduced speed. Waddya think???
If I stay at a dock instead of on the hook, wont have to carry so much ice, food, beer, depending on how many crew(4 max is nice).
[:-pirate]Any way, you know we go no matter the $$$.

as long as you keep it on plane, then yes, you may save a little bit on fuel. Flow meters help to find the best speed...

Nice. May tends to be a very nice month to go. I would guess your best speed/RPM/gph would be right before the the second set of carb barrels start to open up. Be safe and have fun.

It's better to pass the speed you want & then throttle back to keep it.

Joe,I've been kicking it around with another Boater (White Star)about making a crossing with him this Spring..
So far we have been discussing cruising speed as he makes 13 kn. and I cruise at 7kn. SO we are trying to work out a good formula that fits into the program, his
compromise is simple, I have to get underway much earlier and advise him of weather, sea conditions and drift.... Sounds fair to me.
Anyway I hope to see y'all over in those beautiful waters.

Charles, What destination in Bahamas?. How much time would you plan on staying?. On the hook or at a Marina?.
Keep in touch.

Joe, That is a bone of contention with us as both vessels are self contained pwr,ac etc. I like to lay on the hook and use the dink by saving some $$, he likes to step off his boat onto a Pier etc.. Sometimes he will even hang on the hook, He says jokingly "Depends which way the wind blows" I call it laziness.
I will keep ya posted on the ongoing plans when we make some more decisions and speak to some other folks for more input.

Joe,

If Bimini is the destination, I can offer you a 50% reduction in fuel expenses----just invite me and I will split it with you!

:)
