Vic I am very interested in the pressurized fresh water Elegance Vortex Vac Flush can you tell me the cost and availability, it sounds like almost a drop in installation other than the control panel which I think is great. I just got a flyer on it with my ABYC Reference Point magazine.
Regards. Bill
If this is against board rules please e-mail me through the board. Thanks Bill

Yeah, Vic- how about this one? Is it going to be a much better idea than the Atlantes for a homemade houseboat? Much more expensive?

Hi Folks, Raritan's new Marine Elegance head, with vortex-vac technology, will be going into production on November 15th, and should be available everywhere by the first of the new year.

Amelia, actually it will be a good deal cheaper than the Atlantes "Freedom." The average retail price for an Atlantes "Freedom" is around $1,350.00. The Marine Elegance, for pressurized fresh water-flushing will retail for $899.00. For raw water-flushing, it will require a remotely-mounted seawater pump (included with the raw water version). The raw water units will retail for $979.00. The extra $80.00 simply covers the cost for the additional raw water pump. Pressurized fresh water units have the solenoid valve and the vacuum breaker already built into the head, for ease of installation.

I'm sure BoatFix will be carrying them once they're available, and in all likelihood, will offer them at a substantial discount from the retail pricing listed above.

These units work like a champ, everybody knows how well Raritan's SeaEra heads work; they're practically bulletproof. Think of the new Marine Elegance as a spiffed up version of the SeaEra - it works just as well, but is a step up from the SeaEra, with the all-ceramic base, household size seat, vortex-vac technology and programmable wall switch. All Marine Elegance units have a built-in loop to keep water in the bowl between flushes. Available in 12 or 24 volts DC, and in white or almond (bone) color.

The vortex-vac technology is keyed around a special Raritan-designed "pancake" motor that is 4 1/2" in diameter but only 3" long. It fits comfortably inside the ceramic bowl, and only has to draw a vacuum of a few inches, whereas the VacuFlush and Lavac units have to pull a vacuum of several feet in order to work.

Raritan has had a test unit set up in their men's room in the plant all summer, and thus far into the fall. Being used numerous times daily by factory workers, it hasn't clogged once!

There are a couple of things to note however - it is only 14" tall from deck to seat, whereas the Atlantes "Freedom" is the same height as a toilet at home (16"). This is to try and accomodate the "step" or "shelf" in many boats where the head is mounted up above the actual deck level. Also, the rear of the Marine Elegance is angled, for installation in boats where the head backs up to the side of the hull. Future units will also be available in a taller format and a squared-off rear, but for the present it is only available in the configuration indicated.

Here's a virtual presentation of it:

http://www.raritaneng.com/images/raritan2.swf (takes a few minutes to load)

There are a couple of minor typos in the presentation, and we know about them. We were in a rush to get it on our website before the fall Boat Shows began, and we'll go over it and make the corrections at a later date; however the actual information that is supplied, is correct.

I would like to be one of the 1st to try this unit. I currently have VacuFlush but it does occaisonally clog with the correct size and hardness #2. Once it cloggs it is a real pain in the you know what to clear. The schredder looks like it would take care of that problem and then if I got rid of my external vacume generator I could install a Hold N Treat Purasan system. Vick I may call you I'm only in Tuckerton NJ it would be a good test, I am not looking for a free installation or discount, I want to test this against my VacuFlush system. I already use pressurized fresh water to feed the VacuFlush. Take care. Bill

One quick question in the water saver mode how much water is used? Looks like 20ozs in saver mode after watching the promo video.
Bill

That's one nice head!!!

Any idea when the squared off model will be available?

I can't believe I just watched a Flash presentation about a toilet!

It was nice huh Kurt? I have to have the 1st of everything in my life I want to place a pre-order if I can Vic. I'll even take the used one from your rest room! LOL
Bill

It's a nice production, but it could have used some sound effects. Perhaps a cameo by Mr. Hanky might have spiced it up a bit too!

Robyn's Nest, I haven't a clue as to when the squared-off version will be available. All I know is that it has been discussed in various meetings but at this point there's no fixed target date.

Bill, to pre-order, give us a call (856) 825-4900 - I'm at ext. 244. I was looking over your profile; did you or your family ever live in Mays Landing? Maybe parents, or grandparents? I noticed Elwood was mentioned in your profile - that's pretty close to Mays Landing.

Kurt, isn't that sort of thing your line? Wanna volunteer to dub in some sound? LOL!

We're going to be making up some other videos, too, pretty soon.

My Grandfather had a brother that moved in that area years ago. I remember visiting them once but I was just a child, there however is another Lentz not related to us in the same area. I will call you to discuss this unit and Hold-N-Treat Purasan as well to be used when I am not in Little Egg an NDZ. Great Bay just below us isn't a NDZ there doesn't seem to be rime or reason behind NDZ's and type 1 treatment systems but we have a 45 gallon holding tank which lasts long enough to find a working pumpout, take a 3 mile offshore trip or get the "Wastewatcher" boat to pump us out. Regards Bill

Bill, I gave you a bad part number over the phone for the Purasan. The PST1203 is only the Purasan; for the Hold N' Treat with the Purasan, it is part # 21SP1512. My bad!

Everybody, Bill just ordered the very first Marine Elegance head that I've sold! Other members of the company have gotten a few pre-production orders, but Bill was the first one from me!

Woo-Woo!!!

Thanks Vic for your help. I just let the marina know what will be delivered once they are in production. I just noted the different Hold-N-Treat number.
Thank you Vic.

Vic just to be clear I need the freshwater version with the Almond color. I will be glad to write up a comparison between the SeaLand Vacu-Flush and the Rritan Elegance. Great talking to you today and I will pick up the Puasan Hold-N-Treat from Boatfix. Thank you Bill Lentz

Vic,
I have 2 Atlantes Freedom heads. They work well enough, but my internal plumbing isn't what it should be (no vented loop in the waste line). I will be replacing the holding tank and waste lines over the winter anyway. I was seriously considering changing to vacuflushes, but thought I'd give the vented loop idea a try first.

After reading about this Elegance, I'm wondering how these compare to the Atlantes?

Which would use less water? Which would use less power (actually I don't much care about this but am curious)? Which would be more "flush and forget"?

Thanks!

Bill - Congratulations on your new toy! I'm jealous now and must go buy something...

Thanks for all the info, Vic-
We don't have a curved bulkhead in the whole boat, and the higher unit would be nice for a couple of oldish not-so-flexible folk. Guess we'll have to install a 5-gallon bucket full of cedar shavings for the shakedown cruise, and wait for the next new-and-improved version.
As for the location of your factory test unit, that indicates some lack of forethought... how much better the publicity could have been if the flawlessly-performing unit had been located in the ladies' room. Something to think about, perhaps?

Bill, I'll make a note of the almond (bone) color requirement. The price will be an extra $30, because colored bowls are a lower volume item than the white and thus, the bowls cost us more. Part # is 220AHF012.

Mimi, you don't know the guys in our shop. If it can be destroyed, they'll do it. If it can't be destroyed, they'll still find a way... The main reason they put it in the men's room is that in our plant, the men outnumber the women by about 3:1, and it will get a lot more use. When we put a test unit in the ladies room, they seem to be afraid to use it. ("Suppose it breaks; suppose it clogs - then I'll have to tell somebody - and I'll be embarrassed!!!"). The guys are a lot more straightforward (read: crude) about that sort of thing. (Hey, the freakin' crapper started spewin' water all over the floor when I flushed it!!! Ya better get over here an' fix it!)

Mixman, our OEM Sales Mgr. may be willing to discuss a little barter arrangement with you... I think he called you, (Gene C.)

Praetorian, the Elegance uses less water, draws less power, and is quieter than the Atlantes. The only downside is that the current model isn't as tall.

Sounds like a grand bit of engineering, actually. Would it make sense to build a little platform to set the thing on, and maybe a bit of a wedge from the wall, if the time comes to install one, and the other model isn't available?
