Hi, we just moved to the area and was trying to get suggestions as to places that we should boat to? We have taken the boat around the Channelside area (then boat started to run hot and we had to take it in for service & new pump) so now that we have her back, where do you think we should visit? We like the beaches by Pinellas county, any good tiki bars to visit? thanks all!

On the Pinellas side of the bay, Egmont Key, Bunces Pass and Shell Key are favorite places for the locals to hang out. Alcohol and pets have been banned from Shell Key and the north side of Bunces Pass and enforcement has been stepped up. Not much of a drinker myself, but lots of restuarants with dockage and bars especially along the intracoastal north of Boca Ciega Bay.

So if you have a pet on your boat you can't go there?

Thanks for the suggestions Rick. We did the Pier and that area of St. Pete and really liked the marina there (long waiting list though). Would love to get into St. Pete Muni. as there is so much to do and enjoy!

Last time I checked the waiting list at St. Pete Muni was four years, $100 deposit to get on the list. I don't know if they would allow "temporary transient" dockage for that long while you wai out the list, also don't know if they allow subletting if someone was moving out/ I doubt it as that would cause lots of hard feelings.

st. pete muni was advertizing new slips a few months ago. where do you live, Tampa side or st. pete??

if you make it to my side of tampa bay...jewfish is my local favorite.

Tang....if you have a dog, it cannot set paw on land-keeping it in the boat I believe is still OK. Alcohol, you cannot even have it in the boat (supposedly) but I have yet to see LEO's boarding boats to check. We have alcohol in the fridge but I'm so old the LEO's leave me alone. If you're looking for a nice new marina, Loggerhead has just opened up at the old Huber Yacht basin. Location is great for hitting the areas that I mentioned earlier and very protected inlet near Eckerd College. I used to keep my boat there when it was Huber Yacht. There is even some covered slips available for $150/ more. I was considering moving over there but its and extra $60/month more than my current slip at Gulfport Marina. A 32 footer costs about $425 with power, wifi and water included-telephone and cable is available. There is also a clubhouse, ship's store and a pool. They also have a large covered hi&dry rated for a Cat 4 hurricane. Looking for a marina close to Tampa Bay and the Gulf this might be your ticket.

No one can tell you that you cant have alcohol on your boat! Drinking it on a public beach is another thing but you can drink all you want on your own vessel. No LEO can tell you any different. (As long as your not the Captain!)

You can allways cruise down to Sarasota, lots of nice places to stop along the way.

We took a car ride down that way yesterday to walk through, Reggata Point, Riviera Dunes and Twin Dolphins, just to get a look at what marinas are within driving distance of our home. Nice areas, but I think we are considering the marina at Little Harbor, in Ruskin. Really nice, "resort" style marina, with nice amemities and it is only about 20 minutes away...now just have to "upsize" the boat....:)

i bet we passed when you were down at riviera dunes. i was at my boat all weekend.

tcijoe: The one thing I did really like about Riviera Dunes was the two pools, one for kids and one for adults! Great idea! Lots of BIG boats there, we just kinda walked down the main (between the pools) ramp and looked around...

the two pools are floating and most do not even realize it.

i am on the north dock, slip 47 if you ever make it back down our way.

Consider that driving in the car is a lot faster and cheapoer than driving the boat. Little harbor will likely involve longer boat trips than someplace in Bradenton.
