New TVs

I want to replace the old tube TVs on my 2001 Carver with new flat screens. Is there anything special I need to know about TVs on a boat. I see that there is a marine TV offered, is this necessaary? We are on fresh water and a fairly temperate climate. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't waste my money on "marine tv's". I have used regular LCD's on board for many years, leave them over the winter without any problems.

I bought a 12 volt one since we anchor out so much. Skyworth 22 inch flat screen for 300 bucks, including built in DVD player. I am very happy with it, the antenna not so much. May upgrade that this year, I like to turn on the today show in the morning for a little while while having my coffee at anchor.

VTboater, what do you have for an antenna? What are you going to go with? Where did you get the skyworth? Thanks John

+1 on the skyworth tv/dvd we got ours on line at Target 17" for 300.00 and yep you need an antenna sky watch works , we went with one from radio shack that has a motor/tuner in it, works great for remote spots to tune the channels in . And the marine tv's are a waste of money IMO 3 yrs setting on the boat and no troubles...

Hey John,
I got the tv at a truckers supply place online, no issues. The antenna thing did not work out well. I thought the reception would be excellent on the lake, it isn't. I went with the smallest shakespeare marine antenna mounted on the radar arch. It even said for strong signal areas, which I thought we have.
I have not decided yet what to go with. My friend Dave got an RV one for less than I paid that was getting reception when mine was not. The glomex ones are pretty expensive, and a few people think they are junk, and some think they are great.
