No Wake Zones?

mrubino.....boatbum's got it right.
It can be done in two days but you're on the go constantly.
I see you're from Waterford and I've got a question for ya.

Isn't there some sort of docking there in Waterford between the first two Locks? If you go through the first Lock heading west I noticed last time I was down that way that there's a turn to the right before entering the second lock and I was going to see what was down there but when I was there last they were having their annual tug-boat festival or whatever and had it blocked off. What's down there?

You might want to either google earth or map that spot. We've never been down that leg, and from the looks of things there is a dam there, and not much to prevent 'issues'.
I think I'd suggest staying out of there...

Use maps.live.com and zoom in with the birds eye view. I think you'll have a rough time getting back there :D

KALENA II ,
Did you get my info. ok ? I'm still new to the computer stuff & even had to ask someone how to E-Mail you , i think i got it right.

Got it jon....Thanks.....and in answer to the other question....Yes I have but wasn't impressed. To pricey for one thing and it seems like the originals are always better than what they come up with as offshoots.
boatbum.....Thanks...I'll take a look.

Note, that google earth has photo's with a higher pool level. The maps live photos show a slightly different aspect.

Tanq

No docking between any of the locks in the flight. Once you start, you gotta keep on going. They tell you to budget about 2 hours to do the the 5 locks, but in reality it is closer to 1 - 1.5 hours or so to do them, down of course is faster than up.

Tanq, I'll be on the canal sunday to see you guys off on your trip.[:-captain]...Take care...Wayne

Wayne......I thought you were gonna meet us in Sylvan Beach for Clams on Saturday......
The only thing that's changed on this end is that we mught get to Sylvan on Friday instead of Saturday in which case we're just gonna hang around there all day Saturday. They're as of now calling for alot of Thunderstorms on Saturday so I figured instead of having to outrun one on the Lake Saturday...(OUCH...The GAS!!!) it'd just be smarter to go on Friday and avoid them.
So I take it you're not heading down the Canal with us?

Wow, guys from Oneida Lake and "out west" on here now.... way kewl!

Thanks for being curious and asking for a heads up on some N.W.Z.'s

Public docks at the Waterford Visitors center after lock E2.

After entering the Hudson you will find a NWZ on your starboard at Van Schiack's Marina.

After the Troy Lock

Troy - From the island south to just past the Forever Young Barge and docks on the Starboard

Watervliet - the Barge restaurant on starboard

Albany - from the Boat Launch on Starboard just before the Rail Road swing bridge to past the swing bridge where the original Barge Restaurant is also on Starboard

USS Slater on your starboard and Albany Yacht Club - actually on your port side

A good run down to Henry Hudson Park on starboard- if they are using the launch, give 'em a break.

Castleton Yacht Club on your port about two miles south of Henry Hudson.

Tri City Yacht Club - on starboard just past the two big bridges

Coeymans - Ravena YC and Coeymans Landing (our home port) on starboard if the wall is not showing, please slow down

Shady Harbor - About a mile south of Coeymans also on your starboard

A nice run all the way to Hudson. You have Hudson boat club on your port if you follow the channel, if you go to starboard through the Athens Cut it is nice if you slow down for all of the marinas and restaurant.

You might want to wait until after the Hudson - Athens Light before jumping on plane again.

Catskill - after the Rip Van Winkle Bridge there is a boat launch on your starboard

From Catskill Creek you are pretty much on the run all the way to the Rondout. No wake zone in Rondout Creek. Strictly enforced.

Hope that covers them all!!!!

WOW.......Talk about alot of information. I'm gonna have to print this and take it with me.
Thanks-a-LOT...
.
""A nice run all the way to Hudson. You have Hudson boat club on your port if you follow the channel, if you go to starboard through the Athens Cut it is nice if you slow down for all of the marinas and restaurant."

Which would you recommend? Time wise? Distance wise? or is it about the same either way?

We usually run to the east and back down for Hudson. Seems faster to us that way. But perhaps a stop at once was known as Hagar's Harbor for lunch works? Not sure if the are open and serving or not.

Watch the weather on Oneida for strong winds if your gonna anchor out at sylvan beach ,that little lake can whip up some big swells suprisingly quick especially with fast gusts out of the west.
happy cruising, Jon

Thanks jon but I'm from just 22 miles away at the other end of Oneida Lake and believe me....I know all to well how crappy it can get and it's looking like when we come out of the creek into the Lake we might just have to make a serious run for it anyways with the weather they're forcasting here. A little rain etc. once you're in the Canal is okay but as you said....Oneida can get real nasty REAL quick. No need to Anchor out on the beach there when there's a perfectly good wall to tie up to.

Boatbum....Is it shorter that way or just quicker because of cruising speed capability ie; not having to slow for Restaurant Docks and Marinas?

Yeah, printing this out would be a great idea.

If pinched for time then the east side past Hudson is indeed faster like Dan said.

The Athens "side cut" is a lot more interesting, but a lot more to slow down for though.

Dan, Hagars is now Yanni's III. You guys should come up and check it out. Marc and Laurie have done a great job there. A lot nicer than it used to be and yes, the Tiki Bar is still there! We like going down for lunch on Sundays.

Gary, looks like your trip just got extended, it would be a shame to come this far and miss the artistic display in New York City! You can make a run to the city, circle Manhatten and then go back to Croton or Bowline and drop anchor, all it will cost you is gas. Good luck on your trip, holler if you need help in the Newburgh/Poughkeepsie area.

"You can make a run to the city, circle Manhatten and then go back to Croton or Bowline and drop anchor, all it will cost you is gas."

Great......I'd love to......Now be so kind as to tell me how much THAT little extension will cost me in Gas?

Guess it's about 75 or so miles round trip from haverstraw bay,the city sure looks nice from the water though....
Mabey if you go easy on the throttle you can squeeze it in without getting beat up too bad on the gas bill :)

It might actually be a wee bit shorter going on the west. Keep an eye out for the danger markers that exist (or used to) north of the west entrance.

Danger Markers ?? That might or might not be there ?? Guess I'll go to the East side. Thanks
