I have a small cruiser and when I turn on the water pump, water just trickles out of the facuets. It is getting a good solid supply of water from fresh water tank, but the water coming out of the pump is full of air. Sounds like the pump is getting air into the system which I would suspect the pump is bad. But since this is my first cruiser, just trying to make sure before I go out and buy a pump. Appreciate any info.
Thanks,

Scott

Or a supply side leak causing pump to suck air. Does the pump cycle on occasionally when water is not being used, or does it keep running after you turn off the faucet?

Take a piece of hose, attach it to the inlet side of the pump, and stick the other end in a bucket of water. If it draws ok like that, you have a clog ahead of the pump (probably the filter), or a leak in the lines ahead of the pump.

I wanted to pipe in. I had the same problem on my 27 ft carver. tried a new pump due to the age of the boat. That didn't work but I could see that it appeared to be blocked at the inline screen filter. now I just need to get access to the filter. Working on it now

Runs all the time. If you open up the engine comp. with the pump running, you can see air in the lines moving from the outlet side of the pump.

OK, definitely on the intake side, then. So you most likely have a clogged filter, or a leak allowing it to suck in air. Generally these pumps self-prime very well, but it could also be that it just isn't getting primed for some reason.

Find and clean the filter, and make sure all connections ahead of the pipe are not leaking. Even a small leak will allow air in. If still a problem, attach a short hose from a bucket and try like that. If that works, reconnect the inlet hose and try again, and keep looking.

Check the filter and all the hose clamps between the pump and the tank. A loose/broken clamp can do it.

I checked the line from the tank to the pump, no problems. Removed the filter and cleaned it. Not much in it. Removed the line from the tank and water was running out with no problems. So with that I would assume the vent for the tank is open and working. The line from the tank to the pump is under 3' in length. The water going into the pump looks like a solid stream but the water on the outlet side of the pump is full of air. Got a decient stream of water from transon shower in between the air (spitting). So what does everyone think? Water pump?

Sure beginning to look like the pump. Try connecting it to a bucket of water as JoeBTB suggested. If you still get air it's gotta be the pump.

Some pumps have "snap-in" hose connectors, with nothing to seal them but an O-ring. They're nice but I never quite trust them. If you have that kind of pump try removing the connector and coating it liberally with petroleum jelly.

try flushing the pump with a hose into its intake, a valve may be stuck. or disassemble it and look for a stuck valve or cracked fitting

Took pump apart. Didn't find anything. Nothing cracked and it was a little dirty. Put back together and tried again. Still getting air in lines on the outlet side of pump. Just get a trickle up in the sink in cuddy and bathroom. The shower on the transon gets a good flow but spits due to the air in the line. Found a pump matching the exact specs of the one in my boat on Ebay. Looks like I can get it for about 50.00 - 60.00. Unless anyone else have any other ideas.

Getting a hose and sticking it in a bucket will cost you $1.00.

Appreciate all the suggestions. It did ended up being the pump.

Thanks
