Northeast Boating (formerly Offshore)

$60.00 for three years. Are you serious, The boat show gives it away for $30.00 for three years. I think I was renewed till 2013, that included the free year from the AC show.

Sorry But I have never seen this magazine and therefore have not ordered it, I hope I didn't put them out of business.

I always enjoyed that magazine. A couple of years ago I let my subscription lapse and never re-upped. I am now consumed with guilt. Well, maybe I feel a little bad.

That bolsters my reasoning Mike. If you're going to call something the "best" how about checking it out yourself? How can any of the other articles be worth reading if they don't bother to fact check?

Seriously, I'm sure it was a great magazine at one time but it would seem they started digging their own grave a while ago.

Actually John, the issue is called the "Readers Poll... Best Of" so you see it is a non-bias readers poll.. Not the veiws and opinions of the writers and editors...

Just wondering how you can make such a statements as "it would seem they started digging their own grave a while ago." when you haven't even heard of the magazine..

Even in going out of business they did the right thing. I just received my renewal check back with a letter saying that they are closing up publication. And I was worried that I would be out the $60.00.... As a second thought I would prefer to receive that magazine monthly and not have the 60 bucks. It was a great read for those of us in the northeast.

I'm not positive about this, but I believe they have/had a sister magazine called Chesapeake Bay that covered the mid-Atlantic areas around the Delaware and Chesapeake Bays.

Very simple Leigh it's called an opinion. Everyone has one and some smell worse than others. And lets get your facts straight, I said, "I have never seen the mag" not I never heard of it.

Any magazine that posts a "best of series" without even bothering to verify an OBVIOUS ballot box stuffing doesn't have what it takes to survive. So yes, they started digging their own grave a while ago.

FWIW - the Half moon bay debacle was discussed here in detail when that magazine issue came out. I'm guessing you missed that thread but it was an eye opener for me. Made me want to run right out and sign up for such a "fine" magazine!

Next year I'm going to spend my two week vacation at Half Moon Bay!

For a trip like that you should plan on spending 3 weeks minimum Hogan!

You are right, there is SO much to do there. Unfortunately, I can't take 3 straight weeks off!

Oh well, looks like I'll have to go to Greenport, Block Island, Newport, and Montauk instead.

yea, i helped you tie-up.
there were some nice gofasts there that day

Small world... We managed to get some good pictures of them on the way out and then met them at Bear Mountain and got some pictures of there return trip. My son was one of the smaller boats with them. He also was one of the slower ones...:) And the weather turned out great for them...

Seen... Heard... You kidding right?

Regardless of what you think it was a great magazine with tons of information and benefits to boaters like yourself who enjoy cruising the Northeast but you wouldn't know that.

Just wondering what your definition of "A while ago" is?

Last years "Best Of" winners were, I believe, Block, Montauk, Martha Vineyard, Newport, etc.. So I guess 1 bad issue destroyed this once great magazine.. Alrighty then ..

Someone's knickers have been in a bunch lately...

;) rommer, you know how those Haverstraw Marina guys can be... ;)

;) Hey!! Watch it!! Rommer was one of "those guys" ;)

Too bad for sure. It really was a fantastic publication. I haven't subscribed for two years now but had been picking it up at the local book store from time to time.

That's unfortunate but I had a feeling it was coming. When my subscription was up last year I didn't renew since I receive so many boating magazines these days (half of which show up for free at this point) I rarely got a chance to read it. Their letters asking me to renew sounded a little desperate, and I think at some point they offered some sort of lifetime subscription, which reminded me of what Powerboat reports was doing before they went under.

It's interesting how many of you thought the magazine was worthwhile, yet wouldn't purchase it. I guess that's part of the reason why it won't be around any more.
