Northeast Boating (formerly Offshore)

Even if I didn't boat in certain areas, I enjoyed reading about those areas. I will miss this magazine and I was a subscriber. STeve

I have an actve subscription. I will definitely miss it, the articles on some local ports were pretty cool. Maybe they can restructure and come back in a couple of years.

I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see many more publications disapearing, not just boating rags but all sorts. With so many people using the internet, print media is a dying medium.

True Leigh, but it's a pain lugging the laptop into the bathroom...

Yea, but the new Motorola Droid would work perfectly fine in the head!

I guess I'm somewhat old fashioned. Some of my most satisfying hours are spent lounging on the back of the boat on a summer evening or relaxing near the fire on a cold winter night leafing through a boating magazine. Somehow a laptop, much less a super phone, would not be the same.

One thing I have found as I start to get a little older is that magazines/books get more difficult to enjoy. Not to say I don't enjoy them but a quick pinch zoom on the Droid and the hell with reading glasses!

You beat me to it, I have a pile in there that my wife keeps hounding me to find a new home for.

I just looked at one of my bookshelves and I have Offshore magazines piled up going back to 1987! As much as I thought it was a good magazine I couldn't justify doing another 3 year renewal to add to the pile when I still haven't finished reading the ones from 22 years ago! :)

Will they refund me for the rest of my subscription?

Don't bank on it - when Boating Reports went belly up a few years ago, they sold their only real asset - their subscription list - to Boating magazine. In an effort to 'stroke' those on that list (me included), Boating gave us free subscriptions . . . except I (as I bet many) was/were already getting that mag!!!!

Even in going out of business they did the right thing. I just received my renewal check back with a letter saying that they are closing up publication. And I was worried that I would be out the $60.00.... As a second thought I would prefer to receive that magazine monthly and not have the 60 bucks. It was a great read for those of us in the northeast.

They did the right thing for renewals you never know.
