I went online to check the hours for the Northern California Boat show at the Alameda Fairgrounds. Much to my disappointment thier website stated the show has been canceled. I was very disappointed to see this as there were a number things I was hoping to buy there as well as looking at all the boats.

I guess this is just another sign of the current economy.

Yipes! Chicago starts Wednesday. I HOPE!

I had checked the Northern California show website earlier this week and they were showing the hours and dates with the show starting yesterday. They didn't have an exhibitor list though so I went to the site yesterday to see if it was updated and they had a message that the show was cancelled.

I was really looking forward to the show. Oh well, at least I have a three day weekend on the boat next weekend.

What a bummer. I was planning on going next Friday. Thought it odd that the NCMA did not have a big section on their website about it when I looked a while ago.

Times are really changing. I remember in the 60's & 70's how big the boat show was at the Cow Palace. Last year my wife and I went to the show at Plesanton, it was good but not big like the shows before. Will there still be a boat show at Jack London Square this year....?

Jack London is still on the schedule the last I checked. For the larger boats it is alot easier as they don't need to truck the boats to the show. Last year Jack London didn't have that many vendors other than the yacht brokers and dealers. I always like seeing the accessory vendors at the Pleasanton show. Pleasanton also had a few nice larger boats to look at there. I suspect most dealers are looking to manage thier expenses. Hopefully, the Spring Jack London show will still take place.

Cleveland Boat Show starts on Friday...I'll let you know how things go. As a whole we are starting to see (some) life coming back as we are getting people in and looking at boats. Not bad for middle of winter with 10" of snow on the ground.

It's too bad the Jack London show seems to have turned into a pretty much large in the water show. The show was great in the late 90s when it had everything - large in the water AND trailerable boats as well as lots of venders, seminars, booths, etc. Will assume the Pleasanton show is not gone for good.

Our boat show went from a "Boat Show" to a boat/RV show.

Kenny, you going to be around Sunday? A bunch of us from AYC and Riverside have rooms at the Holiday Inn (airport) for Saturday night and we will spend Sunday at the show

Niles...I'll be there both weekends, and possibly the entire show. I look forward to meeting you!

I remember the Cow Palace - I loved going to that show with my Dad as a kid! It was always one of the highlights of the year, and when I was older, I bought my first, new boat off the floor - it was a 24' Sun Runner 240SB - I loved it! It was called Sanity, and I had it for a number of years when I was between marriges - what memories!

In the early (early teens) 1960's I did the skateboard demos there at the Cow Palace. The Northern California Boat Show has always been an important part of my life. I will really miss seeing all the vendors showing the new porducts (toys) and of course the boat & engins. Do you think there will be fewer boat on the water this boating season......? This years I'll be doing most of my boating closer to the marina and watching my $$$$$ closer & cutting back on those longer three & four day boating weekend trips.

Yes, I think the general boating traffic will be down---except for the big holiday weekends---especially if the gas prices go back up!

It is probably best that they canceled, the show last year sure wasn't worth the cost of admission and the time to go to.

A few years ago I would become numb and tired from trying to see all of the show, just too much to see.

Last year I walked through the exhibits and said "That's it?" There were more RVs there than boats and the one company I went to the show specifically to see (battery guy) wasn't there!

That's the way I feel about the Jack London show. Remember back in the 90s, it was great - lots of in-the-water boats. The big tents and parking lot were full of smaller and trailer boats as well as venders, exhibits, seminars. Remember Hal Schell doing a seminar on the delta. Should have bought one of his signed books. When I even go any more, I'm done in 30 minutes.
