We're interested in doing some exploring next week and would like to hear of favorite anchorages north of Annapolis on the Eastern and Western shores. Our most northerly point would be the Sassafras River.

Swann Creek (near Rock Hall) is a nice quiet area. We also like the small bay between Gibson Island and Sillory Bay the Magothy River. If you like the young party crowd you might like Dobbins Island on the Magothy River. If you like shallow water, swimming and a sandy beach you could try Hart-Miller Island.

Fairlee Creek. It is north of Rock Hall and south of the Sassafrass River.
 
Middle River offers a plethora of anchorages, marine services, yacht clubs, and waterfront dining options.

Frog Mortar Creek offers quiet anchorages, dining options at The Wild Duck cafe, fuel service at Long Beach Marina.

Sue Creek has Baltimore Yacht Club on the point with fuel / pumpout services at BYC, good anchorage, steamed crabs available at Sue Island Yacht Basin.

Hopkins Creek offers the Riverwatch restaurant, some anchorages.

Middle River offers Carsons Creekside restaurant, fuel services at Stansbury Yacht Basin, and a quiet anchorage at Dark Head Cove.
 
In addition to the above
Still Pond Creek. Quiet and safe anchorage. Fresh water. No services. Look for the nesting Bald eagles. Watch your depths.
Sassafras River, Back Creek behind Knights Island.
Sassafras River, "$1.98 Beach" across from Skipjack Cove. Its in the NWZ, clean and safe.
 
Few of my favorites, Tanyard Cove off of Marley Creek is very secluded and has a sandbar you can back to. Also, Marshy Creek just south of Kent Narrows is good and secluded yet close to the action...
 
After relocating the boat to the Western Shore this year, we're looking to explore Middle River, possibly this weekend. Do any of the anchorages listed support a landing for dog relief?

All the creeks in Middle River have some sort of place to land a dinghy to tend to the dogs needs. Just a gentle reminder - please pick up after the pouch.

The listed restaurants have transient slips to enable a walk on terra firma
 
Thanks - great news.

We're painfully aware that some folks don't take their dog ownership responsibilities seriously. A shame, too - ruins it for everyone.
 
What a lot of boaters do(including me) is anchor off Middle River in Frog Mortar Creek. We go across from the Parkside Marina(you can't miss it as there is a big sign advertizing the restaurant on the side of the building) and back into the shore where it's sandy. The shore is all woods with a small beach and a great spot for Fido to go....
 
We ended up anchoring for 2 nights for the first time in Hawk Cove behind Hart-Miller Island for last's weekend beautiful weather. It's a nice spot, particularly with the dogs, but talk about r-o-c-k and r-o-l-l with the wakes! Not too bad after the day trippers leave for the night, but now that we are familiar with the area, we may venture up Middle River the next time. I was afraid it would be too crowded once we saw how popular it was, but there was plenty of room to spread out. First time we experienced a walk-up on-the-water concession houseboat, though - what a great idea!
 
As Glenn said-- Fairlee Creek.

Great anchorage, marina w/ restaurant and services. Off season already, but in season great people and boat watching. If you like quiet, simply go further back the creek.

Chester River and Corsica are nice.
