Not So Safe Boating Week!

I was at the kick-off of the "California Wear It" campaign, in Stockton. Teens in a Yamaha will give out inflatable PFDs in exchange for a signed pledge to wear them. It's a pilot program, funded by the Coast Guard, to raise PFD wear rates, especially in the Delta.

That's a great idea! This year the CG and Aux are using the CA Delta as an area to try new and different ways to increase PFD wearing. They are tracking the results to see what methods work best. Then those methods will be applied throughout the USA. At least that is the plan!

I would imagine the Power Squadron is also included, but I have no direct info of this.

You might look for the boat in the Stockton area. It's a 21-foot Yamaha with a colorful "Wear It California" graphic wrap, covering both sides of the hull. If you see them and stop to say hi, tell them you know the captain who taught them how to handle the boat (twin jet drives).

Maybe they will make a run down to Bethel Island one weekend!
