Well, its that time of year again, duck season, no, Rabbit Season, no, Elmer Season, no.... BOAT SHOW SEASON!!!

Once again the calendar is making it crazy for boaters and boat retailers, putting the Javits Center show right at the New Year. Ugh, another shortened Christmas in my house...

Anyway, I figured I would post this and see who's going in case I get to meet any new faces this year. I'm not sure where I'll be yet, could be at the Stingray Booth, or the Sunsation Boats Booth, or both, or roaming the floor selling space to my boat shows later in the winter. Here's the Show schedule:

Sat, Dec 29, 2007 10am-8pm
Sun, Dec 30, 2007 10am-5pm
Monday Dec 31 CLOSED
Tuesday-Friday, Jan 1-4, 2008 12 Noon-8PM
Saturday, January 5, 2008 10am-8PM
Sunday, January 6, 2008 10am-5PM

The Show website is www.NYBoatShow.com

I'll be there. I probably won't know until the morning I'm going. It would be nice to put a face to those shoes. That is if you have a face!

Deer Season YES! Bear Season YES! Sea ya at the show...

Dammit now my secret is out - I had to have my entire body amputated at the knees a few years back. Oh well...

Hey Pete, I've been told the NY Boat Show was moved back to New Years Week because the fashion show, which takes place the following week at the Javits Center, brings more money into the City. People who come to the boat show get back in their cars or hop on their trains and leave; attendees at the fashion show go out to dinner and/or seek additional entertainment at city venues. Once again its about the golden rule - he who has the gold, RULES.

That is probably true, George. Its amazing, isn't it, that all those million dollar yachts and the people who buy them are BAD for business in New York City!!!

What ever you do, dont let your shoes out of your sight. They may not be there when you go back for them.

Wearing old smelly sneakers helps but they can't stank too much or someone will throw them out if they can get close enough.

LOL - I'll see if I can get some. These days I'm lucky if I can get in free myself!!!

Hey Butch, maybe I have your shoes? Two years ago I took off my smelly old $5.99 loafers, toured a Cruisers ten minutes before the end of the show, and when I came out of the boat, the only shoes left were expensive Sebagos, exactly my size! Obviously, some guy took my shoes, and left his. I left my name with the show and the Cruisers booth for the real owner to switch back, but never heard from them.

I wonder if this magic works for used boats too?

I didnt get loafers, an old pair of sneakers where left behind...If I remember right it was on the meridian boats...We left our name also, did not hear anything, but again did not really think we would. Some one got a brand new pair of nikies...

Dan, I don't think they're doing anything special this year...

Hey All,
Ilene, I and the kids went to the Boat show on Saturday Dec 29th. We were invited by Staten Island Boats, I thank you for the invite. The boat show was ok not great. Attendents was very low. No waiting on any boats. There were things to do for the kids which was nice. The show has definately declined. Many Dealers did NOT attend. RayMarine, Furuno, Garmin, Simrad, NorthStar and other passed on this show which left you high and dry from tech Data. Icom and Standard Horizon were there. I would like to thank Mark at Icom, I explained what had happened to my mike on vacation this past year and inquired about obtaing a part or replacement. He was very helpful and had an spare mike with him for my Icom 604 and gave it to me free of charge. Now that is service.. I would highly recomend Icom to all. KVH was there and I spoke to them regarding the High Def channels that are on the Ka band Sat (new bird thats broadcasting high def). They informed me that currently they are unable to provide service for those channels due to the narrow band width needed to aquire a acceptable signal. So everyone who has high def on KVH M3 DX's, that's pretty much all the channel you will get off them, Ku that is. Same goes for other manufactures of Sat systems. They were very helpful.

All Engine and Deisel manufactures were present. I stopped by to talk to All Island Marine (Authorized Volvo). I spoke to Mike (parts) Mike C. (Service) very helpfull. Marine Air, CruisAir, and Dometic were present. Marine air has a new AC/Heat vector plus units, which are very small and compact. Very Nice.

With respect to boats, Not as many large boats. There were only 3 Carvers on display. The 360 mariner,41 cockpit motor yacht and the 40 Marquis. Silveton had 4 boats the 36C, the 42C, 45C and the new 52 Ovation which was the largest. Very nice boat. Sear Ray had 4 or 5 boat. They did have their new 47 sedan bridge.
Cruisers and Formula had the most, anywere from 5-6. Others I did not get a chance to see. I did not see many sales taking place. The Reps did not look very happy. By 6:00pm the place was vertually non-existant and they closed at 8:00pm.

I would recommend setting your expectation very low. Have fun.

And so would I. He and I had a lengthy discussion about SSB and Shortwave. It was very informative and help me get going.
We also chatted with KVH and the word is don't hold your breath for additional HDtv support. I posted about that in the HDTV thread on ATC.
You are spot on with attendance, and for the opening day I was surprised how low the attendance was. A sign of the times or a saturated industry or both?

"Attendents was very low......."

That is a under statment !!! I think there was more sales people then attndents at this show.
