The boat show's two and a half weeks away and there hasn't been a single ad or commercial for it. It makes you wonder if the sponsors really have their hearts in the show succeeding. I'm hoping to go on either Jan 1 or 2, not to buy anything major but just to enjoy the show.Is anyone else planning on going? Hy
 
You are absolutely right, no commercials what so ever. I didn't even know it was so early in the month, usually second or third week.
 
I thought it was closer to Super Bowl week. I guess the people running it don't care if anyone shows up?
 
I forgot about the show this year meanly because there has been zero promotional ads! Not that I need anything but I too like to look.
 
I emailed the PR person at the boat show website and received a reply, "publicity begins two weeks before the show." Seems to me that it should have begun four weeks before, but what do I know? Anyway, it starts on January 1. Next year (2015), it's going back to its 'regular' dates, the third week in January. I seem to remember it being right after Christmas, when the kids were off from school. I guess the show doesn't draw enough paying customers to run it during that time frame. I'm semi-retired so I can go most any time. There are, however, many working people who'd love to go, along with their families, but probably can't because school's in session during the show. (Weekends are zoo-time; I stay away then.)I'll take the LIRR into the city; paying $40-$50 to park the car for the show is ridiculous. Maybe we'll see each other there. Hy
 
Yep, used to be between Christmas and New Year. I haven't done the NY Show for years, even when I lived less than 2 hours away. Too expensive to park, eat and get there. Now its just the AC and Annapolis shows.
 
Going on Friday with a few guys. Might be fun then with less commotion.
 
A little known helpful hint for parking in NYC. You need to go on the internet and find coupons. I have a discount card for central parking so I do use that but try Central Parking to start. They are located all over Manhattan and you can print out coupons that will most likely be $25.00 for all day parking.
 
My wife gets those coupons everytime we plan on going into Manhattan. Unfortunately, they are not acceptable during "special events", such as the boat show. LIRR used to have a special price for boat show tickets and train tickets combined. That stopped a few years ago. if you go online, you can get show tickets for $11.05. I take the train off-peak to and from the show. The only drawback is walking from the station to the Center. That hurts. Last year I took a cab, which saved my back. I'll probably do that again this year. Today's two weeks from the show's opening. Let's see how many ads and commercial there are from now till opening day. So far, there's nothing in Newsday. If I were the show's sponsor, I would fire the PR department and hire someone who really wants the show to succeed. Any offers. Prudential? Hy
 
I park at the ferry lot across the Hudson in NJ. Parking is inexpensive and the ferry lands just behind the Javits Center.
 
The last time I went to the boat show was two years ago, after about a 7 year hiatus. It was a total waste of time and money. The show was tiny, the lines were long and there were hardly any vendors (other than the one's selling non-boat related crap). I'll save my time and money and stay home.

Nothing but a whole bunch of nothing at the NY boat show :(
 
you are so right about the NY show, very disappointing regarding vendor booths, I tried to display there this year and just couldn't get answers from Management and finally gave up, best show I have been to in the last couple of years was Newport RI, lots of vendors, and Sept. is a nice time of year.
 
We are not exhibiting so I made plans to be in FL.

Mixed feelings about the shows. Have never sold a boat at a show. Was so busy at Tobay I would have bet anything one would sell. Sold three of four since the show. All to people that were not there.

I go to the show just to break up the winter and to enjoy some "mantime" with our grandsons and our son-inlaw. We did buy a boat through the show about five years ago, so we're not in the market for one. Most of the vendors display at other shows, boating and non-boating, that's I've attended. If I see something that interests me, I might buy it; if not, is not. As I said, I take the train and get a discount ticket online. It's a nice way to spend an efternoon inhaling boating! Hy
 
I almost bought this cute little boat last year. It looked like a little tug/ trawler. I swear if my wife wasn't with me, I would have gotten it she dragged me away. Have no idea what I would have done with it but it would have been fun pulling into bowline where we all raft up.
