Here is a link and some pics I took on Saturday just outside of Liberty Landing.

Seems that the sport of powerboat racing is getting smaller and smaller.

I was excited to go, but the damn kids soccer game got in the way again. I went last year and was pretty impressed with the boats when they were still on land. It was amazing to see these things up close. I love to watch the races, it is amazing to see. They also have a race off the beach in Point Pleasant, but unfortunately it was also the same day as the NYC race, and I couldnt go to either.

I have seen several races, and was impressed with this guy. I saw them running up close and man the power is amazing.

Sadly, the political infighting among the various race boat organizations is akin to Republicans vs Democrats.
Hurts the sport, and sponsors are turned off.

Best example is as above, two races nearly next door to each other on the same day? Oh that is great for attendance! Sad.

Poker runs seem to be much more popular, and tend to draw more boats.

Key West races are always very well done though. One year the race boat drivers decided to put on a race there despite their organization saying no.

The race boat drivers put on a great race as always, no matter what the politics are. They are the victims in all this.

One thing that stinks about the poker runs is you get to see the boats twice when they pass you.

Atleast at the races they do 15 or 16 laps so you getter a better view of the boats.

I think the some of the poker boats are faster than these race boats!!! Only 2 or 3 were fast, at the poker runs,, you have about 10 that are super fast.

Perhaps if they advestised these races they would get more spectators!

"I think the some of the poker boats are faster than these race boats!!!"

Yes, absolutely true. The cool thing about Poker Runs is that you can wander around the docks and stare into the engine compartments and BS with the owners. Can't usually do that at the races, unless you get a pit pass.

One thing that is sure....the quality of Jonathan photos are fantastic, so we need to get him into a helicopter for photo shoots!
