We're starting our search for our next boat and would like a knowledgeable comment from experience surveying or sea trialing the Ocean Yachts 48 or 56 cpmy. Thanks Don
I took a 90 model 48 with DD 6-71 TIB's from Sarasota to Houston back in the late 90's. Great interior layout and the engine room is fantastic. We crossed from Tarpon Springs to Carrabelle at 20 kts in 4-5 foot seas off the aft quarter. About every 10th wave we had to cut the throttles to keep her from broaching. The bow would dig in and the stern would lift while swinging around. I think stabalizers would have helped. Plus if we had slowed down that would have helped too. We were trying to make the 150 mile crossing in daylight. It was February.
My feelings for the boat are mixed. It may be the best layout that I have ever seen in that size boat. On the other hand they are top heavy and that must be considered before going offshore.
