Hi all,

I am goinf to cancun and was thinking about going to fish right off the shore there. any idea's what will work I heard plastics work well. What kind: tubes, curlytails etc?

Thanks

We hired a guide in Puerto Morelos, a small fishing village, about 8 miles south of Cancun airport. We did well bottom fishing, but struck out trolling. The guides are all sitting at the city docks next to the light house, single engine outboards, open boats. We paid $175 for 4 hours with just 2 people. We caught amberjack and some kind of snapper, not red snapper, but we had plenty of meat for our resort cook to grill for about 60 people(free). We tipped the guide $100 for the trip and cleaning our fish. Great time, only about 500 yards off the beach on a big reef that is only a few feet from the waters surface then a big drop off on both sides.
Not sure about Cancun guides and boats

great, thanks for advise. I was actually hoping I could fish directly from shore. Any ideas?

ylerner,
Yes, decent fishing from shore. Lots of coral to catch your rigs though. I was able to grab some squid and shrimp from the hotel I was staying at and fished a couple of hours a nite with my son. Caught a bunch of fish...
Tight lines,
Perry

My wife and I snorkeled along the beach and saw a lot of permit swimming under the moored boats. But didn't see much more than that.
The rest of the fish we saw were not eatable fish.

Casting a bright colored surgicle tube from shore and using a fast retrieve should get you some Baracuda. Fun to catch but I dont know about eating them, some people do.
