Had a 100 hour service on my twin 4.3L v-6's last week. Put 10 hours on them this weekend, at least 5 of which were running between 3600 and 3800 rpm (mostly at 3600 from prior forum advice). Boat ran like a champ, oil pressure and temps all stable, both engines sounded great. Bilges looked clean at different inspections throughout the weekend.
Today I go to pick up some weekend remnants off the boat and snoop in the bilge since we had a heavy rain last night, I see a few drops of oil I haven't noticed before. Not a ton of oil, but maybe 30-40 tiny brown droplets on top of 2" of otherwise clean bilgewater. Definitely not an isolated spot, but not black everywhere.
I've got a call into my mechanic, but thought I'd generate opinions here. Could be as little as an oil filter not completely tight, or a spill while refilling that dripped off the hot engine?
I'm thinking I never see oil drops in my garage under my two car engines. Better to check it out.
Your thoughts? How paranoid should I be? Thanks in advance.
