Old forum news

quote:

Probably a standard agreement when you signed up, just like every other forum out there, including boatered.com: "All material posted on this site becomes the property of..." (copied directly from the Boatered.com forum guidelines and privacy notice). Once you post, the material becomes the property of the forum owner - you agreed to that.

But I didn't agree to have my personal information sold, HIN, name, email address, etc, in fact just the opposite!

Trademark infringement for the Circle R.

Copyright infringement for any post taken.

The rest is pretty much a matter of public record.

I doubt they'll get $5K for it. There is nothing of value that couldn't be had elsewhere.

That said, if they find the bastard, I'd like first shot at his nuts with a straight razor.

The "bastard" is apparently Ed. He owned the Regal forum and he owns ECUi --listed as its president (his wife is listed as VP)on his most recent corporate filing 5/07.

And yes, it will sell....already has a qualified reserve-met bid.

He really went off the deep end. What a low life. His business must be really sucking rocks to stoup this low. Then again with the rude attitude and hollow threats of legal action it is no surprise he has no business. Always seemed like a decent guy in the past. I'm hoping that the "confirmed" bid is bogus and he gets what is coming to him. What goes around comes around.

I feel used and abused. Been there for a long time, promoted the site all over the place and then stomped on. Jeff was right, pond scum is too nice.

out of curiosity, how much were the dues ? i've always felt suspicious at any owners group/club site that charges any money for access... charging for extra service ? fine.. but not for basic services like reading posts... there are hundreds of free owners groups out there (boats, cars, whatever) that don't charge a penny.

It was a totally free site to use - all access for posting, searching and listing on the classified ads section...

Time to move on - Boatered.com appears to have a wealth of resources available to us all and I think this will in the end help out both communities.

Have a safe 4th everyone!

DogDaze is correct, and he actively monitors this site.

I heard that Ed Unrein or what ever had a possible falling out with Regal. So he has gotten the idea to sell off the site or something to get back at some one. OK so screw everybody else and see if you can get some $. Is this Marine Mafia? With this you crape in your own mess kit and have no soap!

I'm sure there is a story there, Goerge (hehe-unique spelling of your name).

Perhaps Regal will be the buyer, or hopefully one of our wealthy 4260/4460 buddies from the club is bidding on it and will resurrect it, as they wait on their 5260 to be built. I can envision Dominic, or boat106 or jackieJIV using some of there walking around $$$ towards it!
Ken

Hi Ken,

Speaking of boat106, Dominic, Bliss - etc.. I haven't seen any of them yet.

I did put up a post on the Art of Rafting.. funny, while searching for a cached version of it, the first 3 hits in Google, brought me here to the BoaterEd site.

btw, I did find it, and have the text, pics etc.. for reference.. would like to get Greg (Canada) to reproduce here without all the work if possible.

Hi Dogdaze,

Good to see you here. I actually like this site. However, I am a bit concerned with our personal information we posted on ROF being out there. I will also miss the archived information that the old site housed.

I wonder if there is a way we could archive the new information we will log on this new site.

Wow! What the heck happened? I rarely make posts to the old web site, but I now feel compelled to address a couple of issues being expressed on this thread.

First, before we form a lynch mob to capture Ed and administer our own brand of justice, maybe we should try to uncover what may of lead to this debacle. Maybe, just maybe Ed's family has been kidnapped by a group of alien terrorists and held for ransom. And once he is able to collect the $5250 for the sale of our former hangout, his family will be released and the truth will finally come out. Ok, kinda lame, but, I feel that it is possible that there may be some kind of reasonable answer for what has happened to our beloved forum.

Maybe Regal served him with some kind of cease and desist order as they want the rights to the domain name in order to manage their own owners club forum. Who knows?

I don’t know that we should give Ed the benefit of the doubt, but I do feel that before we start condemning Ed, we should try to uncover as much of the truth concerning what's on the auction block as possible.

Second, even though RegalOwnersClub.com, RegalOwnersClub.org, RegalOwners.com, RegalOwners.org, RegalBoatClub.com, and RegalBoatOwners.com are not available for future usage without paying the ransom price, there should be hundreds of other combinations of names that should be available for domain names, such as regalownerforums.com or regalforums.com or regalboaters.com or having a section here is just fine.

Just some thoughts...

Ed has acted like a complete jerk thru this. Rude, hanging up on people, lying, threating lawsuites, etc. There is NO reason I can think of that entitles someone to act like he has.

Frankly I think we just move on. As a small ISP owner I could easily startup another standalone forum but this place offers so much more. Sure we give up a few things like the sub categories we had but I'm sure we can add things like that as time goes on. It took sometime to get the activity level up to where it was. I can remember going more than a week without a new post.

Since I've been active on both Boatered and ROC this move makes things more convenient. My favorite boating site and my favorite owners club all in one easy to use location!

Rommer,

First let me say, Thank you. Thank you for your dedication to the cause that brings so much joy to our lives.

Second... I have no doubt that everything that everyone has posted here is true in nature as to what they experienced, but there could be some kind of reason or story behind the actions of "Ed," thats all. I have read a few posts that make mention of physical harm and such to "Ed." Maybe someone on the ROC site turned on "Ed" and reported him to Regal causing this whole thing and now he feels that he can not trust anyone from the former site. Who knows? Which is what my point is... Who knows...

"Ed" has every right to explain things as he sees it. He can do so on the "redirect page", he can do so via email to all ROC members, he could've done so on the ROC forum before he closed it, and he can do so right on this thread. Hard for me to take the innocent-until-proven-guilty on this one! In my book, he acted like a jerk...

Ken

Hello to all my pals! It is great to find so many of you here and I hope we can find a place to call home and that perhaps it can be here.

Edited by Danstar to comply with rules

I kinda like "edited myself to observe forum rules" but thats just me...

One thing we can NOT do here thou is promote another site. That would be very rude to our gracious host. So please, do not try and promote a competing owners forum. I will have to edit or delete any posts that do.

About old websites in general:

A company I worked for was bought out lock, stock and barrel. The new company removed all content from the old website and abandoned the URL. A porn site took over the domain name. So if you clicked on the bookmark, you got a porn site instead of the previous company site! It was so embarrassing to the new owners! But since they had abandoned the site, they could do nothing about it. The lesson here is if you want to drop an old site, but maintain control of where it goes. If Regal is savvy, they will buy it just to protect themselves.
