We went out Sunday and came back today. I've got to replace the two oldest batteries on the boat tomorrow before going out again. Got a pair of new group 27 12-volt deep cycles at Kragan this evening. Good thing I had three batteries on board when I started the boat this morning or that old hunk of gray iron never would have turned over.

We're having a blast anchoring out and watching the convention on TV during mosquito time.

These are cell phone photos. Hope our resident Delta plant guy pkjryan can identify some of these plants! I won't get the 35mm shots developed for another week or so.

Early Tuesday evening at anchor.

I don't know what aquatic plant this is. Never seen it before.

There is a different king of plant hiding along with the water hyacinth. What is it?

Here is both Brazilian waterweed (egeria densa) and water hyacinth. Last year, there was only water hyacinth at this spot. Now there is a new row of canes and the weed.

We used to be able to row into this maze of mini-sloughs for quite a distance. Now they are totally clogged with water hyacinth.

Nice pictures, thanks for shareing. Thanks for reminding me that I to have got to replace two of my batteries.

My two batteries were kept on a smart charger 24/7. They were five years old. I noticed this spring that the motor wasn't cranking as fast as it used to at startup, but I went into denial and fooled myself into thinking they would last another season. The set I had before those lasted almost seven years but I've done a lot more boating during the last five years.

The batteries weren't totally dead yesterday morning, but it was plain they weren't holding a charge from the solar panels.

The group 27 marine batteries I bought last night at the auto parts store cost me $45 less per battery than the marine chain store.

Nice pictures. Picture number 2 is American pondweed which some of you may have noticed starting to appear in Franks' Tract. It is occupying the areas where we have knocked the Egeria back. Picture 3 I believe is Alligatorweed (Alternanthera philoxeroides), something I am starting to see more and more of. Tell me where Picture 5 was taken and I will take care of the Water hyacinth at that location

Thank you Yzer for the very nice pictures, the delta is such a beautiful place to go and just hang out. DD

Great pictures! If you can stand the heat, this is a beautiful time of year on the delta!

I can hardly wait for about the end of Sept when the wind still lays down, but the daytime temps aren't too bad and the nights start to have a chill. A great meal on the barbee while anchored out... hmmmmmm!

pkjryan, I sent you a PM with the location just in case ownership of that shoreline is an issue. Thanks for your attention and fine work!

Flutter, I'm afraid I'm ducking the heat today. I'm going to replace the batteries this morning but we're not going out again until tomorrow. I've been there, done that with the high heat.

Hmmmm, if I post a picture of the weeds in 5 Fingers, will you clean the weeds out of there?

:-)

My boat is on Piper Slu. Hyacinth and egeria densa used to hang around all year and was particularly bad by this time of year. Thanks to the efforts of pkjryan's department, both of these problems have been greatly reduced, making boating much more fun again! Thanks!
