It hit 65(60 for the water) so we fired up the jet ski and took the youngest and a friend for a ride yesterday. I had noticed that they were putting rip rap along the shoreline of Ordinary Point over the winter. Well, they have finished and there are going to be some mighty disappointed Upper Bay boaters in a few weeks. The large rock rip rap extends all around the peninsula, which used to be beach, there is grass planted behind the rocks, some type of fence and the entire area is posted "Private Property-No Trespassing". Ordinary had to have been one of the most popular (and easy) spots to get to, nice beach to take the dogs for a walk, or go for a swim, always lots of people. Ouch.

The beach at Farilee Creek is similarly marked, with the markers routinely ignored, and no penalties. Glenmar Sailing Club has held corn roasts on that beach for years.

That is too bad! I was looking forward to more rafting there since I am moving to the Sassafras River.

I hope that the new owner puts up a house worthy of that property. That way, we'll all have something to lust after in place of using the beach.

I am surprised about the "private Property" signs - I heard the state paid for the rip rap as part of an effort to save the point from washing away. Honestly, Ordinary point was never a favorite of mine as the heavy traffic always had the boat rocking severely... I went behind Knight Island (not an island, but a peninsula) where protected from the channel traffic.

Yeah,

I'm with Jim on the Ordinary Point deal. Never a favorite of ours as well. We were always either behind Knight Island, Lloyd Creek, at Still Pond or $1.98 Beach for the reasons Jim stated.

I've been to Still Pond, but where's Knight Island, Lloyd Creek, and $1.98 Beach?

All are on the Sassafras. The charts will show Knights Island on the north side at R-8 (if they haven't changed the Navaids) and the water behind it is called Back Creek. You will see Lloyds Creek on the south side between Betterton and Ordinary Point. $1.98 Beach will not be on the charts because it's a local nickname for the anchorage on the south side just inside the No Wake/6 MPH Zone. It's called $1.98 Beach because it used to cost those of us in the area marina's only $1.98 in fuel to get there... now its more like $4.98 Beach!.

Severtal references to Lloyd Creek in this thread - do you really mean Turner Creek? Turner Creek is opposite Ordinary Point on south shore. Everything I've read about Lloyd Creek (first creek on south from mouth of the Sassafras, near Betterton) has VERY skinny water and cannot be entered by anything more than a runabout... or did somehow Lloyd creek get dredged and is now accessable (not likely)?

Jim,
I believe you are correct... Turner. Whichever, I've never taken a boat back in either due to skinny water and it does get crowded there.

The entrance into Lloyd's is narrow but deep. I've taken a 30' aft cabin in there and seen bigger than that on many occasions. It does get a bit crazy with the way people anchor in there now a days.

With the rip rap covering the beach up its not even worth tresspassing now. Too bad it was nice on the week days. Weekends there is too much wake action.

I finally saw the work on Saturday. My boat got launched and we cruised up the Sass. Too bad, look's like I won't be exploring the spot this summer.
