My hot water tank over pressure and temp relief valve is leaking again. I replaced it a couple of years ago and again it is leaking. I have engine hot water heating and after a run it leaks. Engine temp never exceeds 180F and the valve is rated at 200F and 75 PSI. After cool down it is fine so something is setting it off when hot. While I don't have a pressure gauge on the water line it doesn't seem too high when I stop but it is hard to be certain. Any suggestions?

I have an accumulator tank. I added a drain tube to the shower sump while i continue to investigate why my accumulator doesent solve the problem.

Does the accumulator have an air diaphram in it. If so make sure it is charged. If the air has leaked out it will not work so there would be no room for expansion. This could cause the safety to go off...Its also possible the seat is bad on the blowoff. Replacing it is the only way to solve that...

Just an idea. I sometimes have the same problem with my RV hot water heater. My book says that I need to have a air gap at the top of the tank to allow for more expansion. Every once in a while I have to turn off the water supply and drain a little water out of the hot water tank allowing air at the top of the tank by opening the relief valve and the problem goes away. Not sure if this will work for a boat but might be worth a try.

Good Luck

Keith: funny thing is that I had a problem with cold water pushing hot back down the pipe when the shower water was turned off via the wand off button. Venting the tank fixed that problem. I think I'll have to investigate the accumulator tank some more.
