I'm planning on taking a trip to paddy mcgees on a Sunday afternoon. Has anyone been there on a Sunday afternoon. How is the availability of boat slips ? Don't want to do the trip just to find out there are no slips available and is Tobay a better bet ?

Were you planning on early(brunch) or late(dinner) afternoon. For brunch you should be fine but I passed by last night on the way home ~6:30 and the place was packed(slips). I was also told last week that they now charge $20 to dock(got it from one the bartenders), not sure if it is just during the high time, but I have never paied to stop and eat there.

P.S. be mindful if you belly up to the bar, the Bay Constable and/or the NC marine are always lurking waiting for the boats to leave.

Sunday afternoons 4-8p attract a younger crowd, with beer specials. In years past, the deck was always packed. Went past last Sunday around 2p, plenty of slips and no crowd at all. We prefer to go next door to Coyote Grill, same docking, little pricier, but excellent food. Think Bobby Flay style southwestern cuisine. Agree with Danno, the marine patrols are sitting right there, and recently we saw uniformed men on jetskis!

They are definately charging for slips during the afternoon and evening on Sat and Sun. The signs for dock fees have been up for a while but this is the first season they actually charged for slips.
As far as availability, it has been pretty quiet most of the season. Last night I too cruised through at about 5:15 and 3/4 of the slips were open.
I think their ripper pricing and mediocre food is finally catching up with them. IMHO it looks like a good pick up scene, but for other than that I would take a pass and swing over to Jordan's Lobster for the goods.
