I just painted the inside of an old garden cart with truck bed liner and the stuff goes on nicely and hardens. I wonder how well it would hold up as outdrive paint?

I wouldn't, just stick with what was designed to do the job. I've been painting my outdrives on three different boats for 25 years with Trilux33 and no problems so far, I say if it ain't broke don't fix it!

The thing to check is how thick it goes on. They've been using poly-urethane bed liner on the inside of old leaky aluminum boats for years now.

I've been using Hardnose paint by POR 15 for years. Work's great and look like the OEM Mercruiser paint. You can paint it by hand or spray it if thinned. It's a two part epoxy that hardens to a very tough finish. It has worked great for me and on Bravo 3's I need to keep them covered.

I can understand your desire to find an easy method and if you go with Rino or another product I look forward to hearing your results.

At the top of this section of the forum is a "sticky" the ultimate "old school" method that seems to work very well and for a long time. GeeBee posted it years ago and updated this last February. Check it out.

The quality of RhinoLiner will be dependent upon the prime coat you place between it and the aluminum. You fundamentally have two bonding processes going on there. One is the quality of the primer bond to the aluminum which you can solve if you use the alodine process I posted. How Rhino bonds to your primer is one you will have to investigate. Like Faverod I recently experimented with Hardnose by POR 15. I am favorably disposed to it over an alodined and primed surface. It has very high durability and interestingly enough, very elastic.
