Painting refrigerator racks

The white, plastic-coated racks in the refrigerator on our boat have rust showing in a number of places. Has anyone repainted any of those racks? If so, what paint did you use and where did you get it? I'm thinking that some sort of rubberized paint might work. Finding new racks is just about impossible. Hy
 
I have always been able to clean up the surface rust with a mixture of Bleach and water. Then make sure you rinse the Bleach solution off.

There is an Epoxy spray paint available at Home Depot- I have used it on fridge racks--works and lasts

I went over to Lowes and spoke to the guy in the paint department. He recommended using Rustoleum spray paint. I sanded the rusted areas and cleaned the racks. I gave them one coat of paint tonight; they're looking good. I'll give them a second coat tomorrow and re-install them on Monday. Hopefully the painting will hold for a year or two. I'll deal with it again at that time. Hy
 
I'd just use a little SS wire brush to knock down any loose stuff , coat the bad spots with a light coat of Ospho, let dry, then spray a couple coats-and-dry with Krylon.
 
I did mine this year, wire brushed the rust off and sprayed them with a couple of coats of white appliance paint.
 
I found wire shelving to be a pain. Items tend to spill over but of course that depends on the wire spacings. I purchased 3/8" lexan on EBay, cut the new shelving to fit and replaced all the wire stuff in two fridges.

Since most small RV - Boat - dorm room type refrigerators don't have circulator fans, how to you keep stuff above the lexan from freezing, and stuff below from getting too warm ?
 
There is enough space for air to circulate. I have no trouble with an 8.3cf and a smaller dorm size fridge. The 8.3 unit does have a fan, the smaller unit does not. I am pleased with the end results.
 
I did mine last year. I wire wheeled off all the loose/cracked stuff. Primed, then painted with white rubber coat paint available at Ace Hardware. Holding up real well so far, and easy enough to touch up with another coat of the rubber paint when needed.
