Has anyone anchored out over night at these locations? Barring obvious weather, they look like attractive anchorages. We're in the 25'er and it is hard to sleep in if there's a wind chop.

I don't know offhand where China Cove is, but Paradise Cove, off the east side of the Tiburon Peninsula, is subject to large, unexpected wakes from passing cargo and tanker ships because it is so close to the shipping lane. I would advise battening down everything before settling in there for the night.

Richardson Bay, off Sausalito, is a much more popular anchorage. By the time large ship wakes get there, they've travelled 4 miles or more so they've lost much of their punch.

China Cove is much less subject to a wake of significance, and is calm at the right time of year. Only problem is the waters around there can be very shallow, and you need to work the tides right. Be sure you have enough wet stuff under you where you anchor or you'll end up in mud. If you have the means to row ashore, go for a walk and visit the shrimp factory, enjoy some history.

China Camp I guess. There is a park on shore that looks interesting. Laurentzen's is right around the corner.

China Camp is at the west end of San Pablo Bay. Lauritzens is located just east of the Antioch Bridge (Hwy 160). Loch Lomond is just around the corner from China Camp.

Thanks Phil. I almost had to pull out my charts to figure this all out!!!!

China camp and paradise cove can get some fast currents and 180 tide changes. Richardson bay is basically protected on 3 sides and has more things to see/do shoreside than the other two.

We've enjoyed China Camp/McNear's Beach as a "lunch on the hook" spot a few times during day trips. The park is nice. Things can get a little wake-rolly as noted. Always thought of the area just SE of Paradise as California City, (usually just referred to sa Cal City) home to some great striper fishing.

I always wondered where Cal City was. It is referenced in fishing reports and I didn't have a clue where they meant. Thanks George!

California City is the section of land between Paradise Cove and Racoon Straight. There's a NOAA station right there. There's really no access there because of the broken pilings in that area. That's where they used to make the Giant Cable Netting that Protected the Bay during WWII. No anchoring...Tons and tons of old cable dumped along that section of shore.

Salmon have to pass along that area so you can get lucky if you hit a run. Sometimes Salmon will enter and leave the bay before before actually starting up the Sacto. You can tell when you catch them, if they've spent much time in brackish water. They'll loose scales and turn very dark the longer in the bay.

More good information. I always thought of Cal City as good for strippers.

Stripers are really structure oriented for ambushing prey and because prey hang in areas of structure for protection.

BUT, they are also foragers and search the flats for crabs and shrimp and anything else edible.
