My friends and I went out on a party boat out of Montauk Sunday, we took dramamine the night before and again in the morning on the boat. We hit some 9 foot waves and there was absolutely no fishing action, the cod bite was off! Everyone got sick and we all froze our asses off, we left the fishing grounds hours early. Three and a half hour ride back(all of 25 miles) Please tell me why I pay $100 a head for this?

Patrick,
Thanks for the report...unfortunately, all my fiends who recently went after cod hit the jackpot for the past few weeks sorry to say. That's alot of Dramamine...next time try the patch. A lot less side affects and just put the patch on the night before. 9 footers are no fun to fish...what boat did you go out on?
Fish on!

Next time you'll study the weekly marine forecasts & buoy reports, pick a good day, catch fish worth >$200 for the experience and it'll all even out. Ya pays ya money & takes ya chances, as they say, & that applies on your own boat as well. Sorry you had a pretty miserable time out there on the bounding main. But at least you get to get some good manly-man adventure mileage out of the tale. ;D

he he he... thats a tale I coulda lived without! Yes, my luck was that the bite suddenly ended just before that very day!! But, I had looked at all the reports, weather and bite reports and saw nothing about the weather or the bite to raise any suspicion. I wondered why the boat nearby (The Rosie) stayed at the dock... The boat we went on was the Miss Montauk..So, I will live to fish another day.. tight lines!

I have only gotten sick one time, after a big time drunken night and just a few hours
of sleep. My wife used the patch a few times and she gets just as sleepy as Dramamine.
She uses Bonine with much better luck on the sleepy side effect.

whenever i see these mass fishing boats, I ask myself the same question... "what's the point?"

paying to be rolling around in the cold with people puking all over while trying to catch a fish??

I got sick once. It was in 1948 going out Palm Beach cut. We were ATTEMPTING to fish in the Gulf Stream. My father and the Capt. were the only ones on board that were not sick. Two destroyers went by us and they were rolling more than we were. I think we had about 10 to 12 foot seas. It was MISERABLE.

The good thing about these trips is the Captain and crew get to tell the story over free beers at the local bar. The legend will grow and grow.......and they will never tire of telling it.

The real alure to some of these party boats is that you can't always reach certain fishing grounds with your own boat and my silly ambition is to catch as much a variety of fish as possible before I drop dead....I said it was silly...he he he

Next time you go to Montauk, Take "Tred Barta", with you. He catches fish. He also cracks me up.:D:D

For winter time fishing, even in Florida, NOAA is your best friend. I go out of St. Augustine Inlet a lot and have seen sea forcasts double in less than a half hour. Tune your VHF to the WX broadcast and leave it there. :)

As for the cold? Like I said, I live in Florida. We don't do cold. :)

Happy hookin'!
