Well after spending a delightful weekend at Peanut Island using their free day pier and in the evening hooking up to a FREE MOORING!
Yes boys and girls it is so!
I was on the pier during the day time speaking to a Sheriff about the water activity around Peanut Island when I noticed boats tied off to floating Buoys warning of no wake, 5MPH (aids to navigation) that were around the pier.First the sheriff told me that NOBODY has permission to place any moorings on the East side of the Island so in fact they are all illegal. He told me that anybody could tie up to those buoys including myself, SO I asked him what happens when somebody comes over and tells me that it's his mooring and he said "you tell them to go pound some sand"
Well on Sat. night this fellow comes over near my boat in a large sailboat and tells me that "His Club owns the moorings and he pays dues for its use" . He pointed to the other buoys that had many boats rafted together to enhance his statement...They all be from Sailfish Marina,Singer Island
Well first ,I thanked him for the use of a great 3 point mooring and advised him that I would be leaving Sunday around noon.
To say the least he was not to Social after having to drop his own hook.
But always ask a Sheriff for the best information on the water for nice places to anchor or tie up at. Seatow and Boat-Us just don't have the "skinny" .
