Any opinions on these two ablative paints. I had Horizon on my boat least season with no problems. My marina will use any paint I choose so I am thinking of using 2 coats of Ultima and hoping to get at least two seasons out of it. It has a second biocide for algae. That's the difference between the two.

I used 2 coats of Petit Horizon and my boat sat all summer in fresh water.(Sassafras River, Chesapeake Bay) When I had the boat hauled last week the bottom had at least 50-60 barnacles attached that the power washer did not remove. So I will try Ultima next spring.2000 2760 Regal.

Never used Horizon but have been useing Pettit Ultima SR for several years. Results at haulout have been very good. It's expensive but I'll keep using it.

I've used Ultima since I bought my boat in '04. No problems at all (well, except for the high price...). Be sure to use a different color as your base coat so you can tell when the topcoats are almost gone.

Bay Bum, I think the idea behind ablative paint is that tyhe boat has to move to allow the paint to m]wear off and expose more biocide. You may be better off with hard paint. The ultima has a second biocide but thta's for algae. I don't think it will do anything for barnacles. But I thought barnacles were in salt water.

I used switched to Pettit this year for the first time after using interlux for 5 years. The Micron CSC just hold up after one year so I decided to strip the barrier paint and apply 3 coats of the Ultima and so far not a trace of bottom growth.

We run the boat as often as possible with only a light coating of slime build up. Perhaps barnacle is not the correct description, they are about 1/4" round shells shaped like a volcano that protrude about 1/4 ". any ideas?

Thanks

Greg

If you go with the Ultima you won't be disappointed.

Yup, barnacles. I'd heard they made it way up into the Sassafras this year. Happy scraping. The Ultima should work better than Horizon.
