Anyone have any idea why? Looks like that pink alge or what ever that is that coats the shower and sink where you clean it with bleach. But I used soft scrub on it and its still there. Its on the swim platform as well as top of seat cushions.

Sure sound like fungus growing but bleach should surely remove it.

The "pink stuff" is most likely evidence of a bacteria. The most typical of these bacteria is one known as Serratia marcescens. These bacteria thrive in an environment that is moist. Serratia Marcescens is naturally occurring in soil and perhaps it is wind blown onto your swim platform and seat cushions.

Try using Barkeepers Friend, available at Lowes & Home Depot. Wet the platform, sprinkle it on the platform and scrub it in. Let it sit a minute or so, then re-wet and really scrub it in, then hose it off.

Thanks! I had used soft scrub which has bleach in it. Also, funny you mention spray sun screen, I and my kids have been using it this year also, it gets all over....

Be careful, that sun screen spray can make your footing VERY slippery!

And I find it turns white stuff a bit pink/orange. I have banned it to my swim platform but find that when people spray their feet I get these orangish outlines of footprints. They scrub off but still a pain.

All good info! I took a flying leap one time on my deck, crammed my foot into the stairway, hurt like heck, made me think that when I get a bit older I could break something and be stuck out on my boat for the night if not days at the mercy of the dreaded green fly....
