I didn't want to hijack Wayne's thread, but DBH asked about other place to cruise. Have you been into Cashe Slu? It is up the Sac River, past Rio Vista. Stay to the left instead of going in Steamboat Slu or the Sac Shipping Channel. Prospect Slu is one of the beautiful areas up there. Be sure to have plenty of fuel and ice as there are no marinas in that area. But it has beautiful anchorages and plenty of water. If you can fit under the old wood bridge, go up Lindsey Slu. It deadends at some pumps, so lots of current and depth.......

Flutterby,

I have been up that way a bunch as we often make Vieira's our home port, so to speak, while we are noodling around up that way. Very pretty and very isolated up that way most of the time. One time we even took a lazy ride up the Sacramento Deep Water Channel to see what was up there. Not a real pretty cruise but it was fun to see the port. After twenty years of boating up there and always searching out new places, I've seen a lot of the delta. Thats why I have recommended the Napa River, Suisun Slough and the Petaluma River as options of those looking for something different. All great trips. By the way, I think I have been to Grindstone Joe's island up by Tower Park but I am not sure I saw it. Is anything still there of the old guys stuff.....building or maybe the grindstone??

Bil Wells mentioned Grindstone Joe's in one of his Yachtsman articles this past winter, so I believe it is still there and active! I've been by there, but have never had an opportunity to really see the place up close.

Suisun was a great trip. Very scenic boat ride up there, a few restaurants right at the marina. Another good spot is the Riverboat. They have guest docks, nice restaurant and live bands.

Hi All! I'm sure most of you have done it, but Georgianna Slough off the Moke is one of the nicest cruises you will have. Much of it is no wake, so it is pretty peacefull and quiet with lots of beautifull trees and wildlife to see. Once up at the top where it meets the Sac river, tie up at the Walnut Grove public dock, and do a walking tour of Walnut grove and Locke. Add lunch at Al the Wops, and you have an entire afternoon used up. Stay at the dock, or head back around to Georgianna and drop the hook in peace and quiet. If you take guests, they will remember the trip forever! Some of the best the delta has do offer.

The Meadows north of Walnut Grove is a very scenic place. It is in the area of Railroad Cut and Snodgrass Slough.
