Pool line antifreeze instead of RV antifreeze

I didn't pick up any antifreeze yet but have a case of Pool line antifreeze left over from last year. It says it is PROPYLENE GLYCOL which is the same ingredient in RV antifreeze. Can I use it to winterize my boat. Thanks

What temp does the label say it is good for use?
 
I hear it's not good for motors as it eats rubber gaskets.
It's good for water system or ac units
 
I've use Propylene Glycol AF for 20+ years. Used Sierra AF. Never had an issue!
 
The pool line antifreeze says good to -50. I am fairly sure its the same pink that is in the RV antifreeze. What I have gathered is some people feel the Propylene Glycol might stiffen up impellers. Any way going to use it for A/C and fresh water system which I will blow out first to be safe. Thanks

It does ruin impellers, but you should be replacing them upon recommission in the spring anyway. Use PG if you use anything because EG is too toxic. I use it in my engine. Just keep in mind what -50 means. It means that a copper pipe will not burst with this PG at -50. Above that temp, other things like plastic will burst and it will even get slushy around 15. Also remember that "-50" is undiluted. If you have any water left in the system, that temp moves up. If that works for you, go for it.
 
Don't believe there is any rust inhibitors in the pool PG though. Rust inhibitors are good for an engine block. If my memory is still good anyway.
 
Here is what I am going to use. Pool line antifreeze in the A/C, Generator and fresh water system. Fresh water system will be blown out with air, heater bypassed and antifreeze pumped in after the freshwater pump bypassing the freshwater tank also. For the motors I will use Prestone RV antifreeze.

Prestone Pink. Mercruiser web site said to use with the rust inhibitor which the Prestone RV has.

FWIW - a generator is an engine , just a small one. Engines deserve an antifreeze that can help prevent corrosion.

The only Prestone pink I find on their website is "Prestone Waterline RVAntifreeze". This stuff doesn't look or sound any different than any other pink propylene glycol antifreeze.
 
Who cares? Anti corrosion inhibitors? REALLY?, Everything you are running that stuff through sits in pure 100% H2O ALL THE TIME during the warm months! (That is why you are ahem! Winterizing it!) Come on guys. Think about.

If it needed anti-corrosion inhibitors you would not be winterizing it, it would already have anti-freeze in it.
 
Difference is over the summer it moves. In winter it lays dormant.
 
Moving water is even more corrosive. That is why you change anodes more often in tidal waters than pools. Further how often does it move? Only when you operate the system and how often is that as compared to sitting idle. Average boater 4 to 10 hours a month. 10 hours versus how many hours in a month? Think about it logically.

Be aware that most of the cheap RV antifreeze sold today is mostly ethyl alcohol with a splash of propylene glycol. The Prestone and Dow RV stuff is still all PG.
