I see these on the smaller Trophy boats. It looks like a Thetford 360 marine portapotti with a pump out line attached. How well do these work in practice? Is it easier to carry the tank to the bathroom?

I had one in my previous boat. If I remember correctly, you cant remove the tank unless you remove the hose clamps so it is much easier to just pump it out (thats what I did)

To me, a pump out on a 2 - 2 1/2 gallon porta-potti is a waste of money - especially if you have to pay to get pumped out. On my last boat, I thought about converting the porta to a pump out but where I'm at they charge you $8-10 to pump it out, no matter how big your waste tank in. For that money, I can dump it in the toilet.

Waste of money having a pump out on a porta-pot type head. The connections can leak too.

I put in small manual head and Purasan Type I system on our boat. Pumps totally macerated and disinfected waste overboard. No holding tank required. Sips electricity: 15 amps at 12VDC for two mintes per cycle (flush). The DYI cost will be the head plus another boat unit or so for the Purasan and plumbing. Legal to use anywhere in the bay or delta with the exception of Richardson Bay (NDZ) and in marinas that have toilet facilities.

The come standard like you described on our 22 foot Campion Explorer. It's under the V-berth and a huge pain in the arse for middle of the night relief. Fortunately, the previous owner plugged it and replaced with a portapotty, which can be easily moved to the rear while we slip. Plus cleaning is a breeze. No hunting for pumpouts, which in my country, can be closed during winter boating.

Thanks. I like the idea of moving the porta pottie out of the cabin when spending the night. Good ideas.

That's what we did when we had our 22' cuddy. Move it to the cockpit and set up the bed in the cuddy for the night. That was one of the things that helped sway the wife towards a bigger boat! LOL
