Should the joker valve (C253) be mounted horizontal or vertical in a crown head?

Makes no real difference, Craig. I like it to be horizontal, but that's just my personal preference. We get scads of Crown Heads in for rebuild, with the joker valve in all different sorts of orientations, and they all seem to work just fine - as long as the duckbill points away from the head... (I've seen them mounted backwards, too, and they were all scrunched up and the owner was wondering why he was getting poor flushing!)

Thanks for the info Vic. I thought it would not make a difference but thought I would ask "The Master".

One other question for you, does the CSRK repair kit come with the CH25 gasket? My local store stocks the CHRK kit but that does not have all the parts I need.

The "Master" is OK; just don't ask me to bait your hook - I wouldn't want to be called the "Master-Baiter"... (Saw a boat once, with that name. Who, in their right mind, would want to run around in a boat with that name on it?)

At any rate to my surprise, I checked the bill of material and discovered that the CH25 Front Cover "O" ring is NOT included in the repair kit, #CSRK. The machining has been changed on the front cover, and the "O" ring now seals at a different spot, and is a smaller size. The smaller "O" ring is included in the repair kit. If you are re-using your front cover (CH18), simply spit on the "O" ring that's already there in the front cover, and smear it all around the "O" ring with your finger, then re-install the front cover - it's not usually necessary to replace the "O" ring.

I am using my old CH18 cover but thought I would put a new "O" ring on while everyting was apart. I will install my old 'o' ring.

You're right, who would name a boat that?

How about when you're calling for Coast Guard assistance. May Day ! May Day ! This is the Master-Baiter requesting assistance. This is the Coast Guard; assistance for what Captain ??
