Pulled the ol' Briggs&Stratton off the minibike for this one. Didn't go fast enough, so I converted it to a sailboat. Didn't go upwind, so I built a catamaran...

Actually my FIRST boat was an 8ft punt my Dad built for my sister and I when I was about 10 - we paddled it around the slough on the farm. It was the inspiration for my "Jonpram"

The boats have changed, but one thing has not changed......people hanging out, relaxing at the dock, and I assume drinking and eating. Though in those days they drank, Shlitz, Schmidts or PBR.
 
Hey wait they still DRINK PBR's... well back in 80's

U guys in the north had mini bikes? I thought that was NY thing....

My dad used to get soo pissed.. he'd come home .. Lawnmower all apart... motor missing....

Then cops show up.... that was never good... hard to run the throttle on the carb and see where ur going and where u been....

So it was on school grounds.. nice big open field... I didnt see any trespassing signs.... ( again wit the hand on the throttle ...... etc )

So then we moved to the local sump.......

that was another issue......

then we got smart and made go carts...... now thats a LONG story......
 
Actually PBR is the preferred beer at Hogs and Hefers in the city, so they still make it.
Great place.

My Dad always had Piels or Schmidts and he never new how many were in there, so I can always steal 1 or 2.
 
Rheingold was a popular favorite back then, and Schaefer was the one beer to have when you're having more than one.
 
I remember when coors first came out. You couldn't get it in NY. The can had 2 holes that you would push in with your thumb.
 
Sadly I dont have any pictures of my first boat. It was a $500 1969 Larson 15' runabout with a 75 hp evenrude on the back. It was a real P.O.S. My next boat, which I do have a pic of, was my 1992 Maxum 1900. Great boat and had alot of fun with her before moving up to the cruiser.

Finally got to scan a few shots in.

This is what my backyard looked like in the early 1950s from shore road, for those familiar with it now. To the right in the picture is my dad's old 26' wooden boat, built in 1935. He bought that boat in 1949 and that was the boat I grew up on until about the age of 10. This shot is from when the house was a summer house, before it was raised up and had the dormer added.

Then came what was supposed to be a minor fix to the deck around 1978/79 which turned into a big restoration project which unfortunately never was completed. After 3 boatless years he decided to buy a neighbors boat that was for sale, a 1973 19' Bayliner. This was the boat I had through teenage and college years -

Then it was time for my first boat that I actually owned. A 1992 26' Regulator express. I had that boat for 6 years before my 2 Blackfins.

John, Nice, I always love to see older pictures.. The tide seems very high in the picture of the 1973 19' Bayliner.
 
Brad, the picture with the high tide is my dad's old Bayliner. The date when the picture was developed is Dec 1991, which I'm pretty sure means it was taken during 'The Perfect Storm' that October.
