According to an article in BoatUS magazine, Potato Rock still shows on all charts as a hazard to navigation, even though it no longer exists.
The article says it hasn't been there for at least 20 years. I quote, "It was blasted into rubble by the U.S. Coast Guard or the Corps of Engineers after it tore out the bottom of a barge bringing landfill to Croton Point."

Still makes sense to avoid coming close to that area since as the shoreline erodes more and more debris are in the water there. At low tide there are quite a number of larger boulders that people walk out on to fish. IIRC some are submerged at high tide.

Oh, I agree, but this is just an illustration of how out-of-date some charts still are. NOAA was in Haverstraw Bay for awhile late this season, hopefully gathering data to update chart information.

I'd rather have rocks on a chart that are not physically there, than rocks that are there, that are not on the chart!!!

I saw my friend Steve last night. I asked him if he ever hit Potato Rock. He said NO.

That proves it, if the rock was there, Steve would hit it...he didn't think that was funny.

Today they likely would not be able to blast the rock due to enraged homeowners, PETA and various "save Potato rock" environmental groups.

I would expect Chris (W) to be at the top of the list of saviors given the moniker. :D

My, how things have changed. This was reportedly blasted to get garbage barges into the landfill....think about it.
